starting relay question?

where is the relay that controls the starter sylinoid?

when i go to start mine which we just did YEHAAAAAAAAAAAA.

sometimes the starter does not turn over.

i know it is not the sylinoid we have a push button on it to start it.

i got tired of holding the key and it sometimes not working...

but anyway.

is the sylinoid under the dash??

that is where i think it is haven't really had time to chase it down.

has anyone had this problem before?

part numbers???

Chevy doesn't use a relay. The low-amperage side of the solenoid energizes the high-amperage side. There's a copper disc in there that makes the contact and it can get carbon buildup on it with age. You can take the solenoid apart and use a file to clean it or you might want to replace your solenoid.

so could my switch be bad?

i have a got wire with a push button in line and it starts it just fine with the sylinoid on the side of the starter.

does the hot go from the switch to the sylinoid?

i thought there was a relay inbetween.

Hot goes from the starter switch to the S terminal on the solenoid.

You can test the solenoid by jumpering from the positive cable to the start pole of the solenoid (make sure the key is off).

your ignition switch and/or plug is probably worn/melted

leaning toward the switch. i have one in the dash PO lost key and one hanging that i am using now (probly no good). either going to go with new one or i am thinking of a hidden push button switch under dash somewhere that will require the key to be in and turned to the on position.
