nitrous question
for those of you who are running nitrous or have run nitruos in the past. what type of system did you run and how much of a performance gain did you achieve.
also i am thinking about running a 200 shot in the future. what modifications need to be in place for a motor to handle this much nitrous |

I'm running a NX Hitman nitrous kit. My truck ran a best of 8.77 @80mph with a 2.00 60' without nitrous, with a 100hp shot it ran a best of 8.12 @85mph with a 1.84 60', with a 150hp shot it ran a best of 7.99 @88mph with a 1.96 60' (need better tires).

383 stroker what tires are you using? i have a set of 325/50/15 bfg drag radials and the only way i can hook is to bring the nos in @ around 4000. when i get to the track i will play with tire pressure. also how much do you add to 1/8 th mile time to get a 1/4 mile time. looks like your truck is in the 12's with the 150 shot if i am guessing correct.
blu one more thing if i go with forged pistons can i handle 200 shot. i get plenty of fuel with my electric fuel pump. oh yeah thanks blue for your reply |

I have a set a 295/50-15 Hoosier Quicktimes. They worked ok when they were new, but they are a few years old now and about bald. I'm going to buy a set of 28x13.50-15 ET Streets before I go back to the track. My truck should run mid 12's.
Multiply 1/8 mile times by 1.56 to get the 1/4 mile time. Forged pistons will handle a 200hp shot. What kind of rods do you have? It would be a good idea to run some racing gas with a 200 shot. What hp shot are you running now? Have you run it at the track with nitrous yet? You should be able to get in the 12's with a 100hp shot. |

i have a 125 shot and i have not ran it at the track yet. our track opens on the march 21. i hope i can get into the 12's. i have run the nos for a few quick bursts on the street and it really snaps.
i have the stock rods now but when i rebuild the 400 (in the far future) i will buy some heavy duty rods. which ones do you reccomend? |

You should run 12's easy with a 125 shot, if it will hook up. I wouldn't go much higher than that 125hp shot with hypereutectic pistons and stock rods. Do the stock rods have ARP bolts? How much timing are you running with the 125hp shot?

stock bolts and i am running around 30* total. do i need to drop the oil pan and substitute the arp bolts for the stock ones. if that will save me some trouble i will do it

ARP bolts are a lot better then stock. I'm guessing those rods haven't been shot peened? How hard do you turn that motor?

ask a machine shop b4 you drop the pan and add arp bolts....

i run it up to 5500. when i built the engine i had the rods reconditioned at the machine shop.
