ok so i picked up a steering column out of a 73 for my 80 short bed. well the column didn't have a key, so i went and bought a new lock cylinder. so my question is how do i get the lock cylinder out or at least get the cylinder to turn to the run position if i don't have a key for it??

Rat. remove the signal light switch and there will be a screw just below where the lock cyl body would run. It may or may not be a torx head. Remove the screw and the cyl will slide right out. Pay attention to how the body is situated in the housing. Slide the new one in and turn the key a little bit each way to get it to bottom. Once bottomed put the screw back in and reassemble the signal light switch ect. jim

actually i managed to get it. and the column had one of those slots where you have to stick something in to release the cylinder. i had to call my dad to get it figured out. chiltins was telling me to turn the ignition to the run position. but i got it! so i decided to just say f%&^ it and get a new column. which is a good thing i guess since i also got a gauge bezel that was in decent shape and a power steering pump with the older low mount brackets, which i need to install on my 80. btw, this smiley amuses my wife

Almost 2 years of work, but it was really worth the effort. Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.
