shaved handles

Forgive me if this has been gone over. I'm sure it has. It's one of those "how do I slam my truck the ground and still pull a gooseneck!?!?" kinda threads .



Anyways, I don't seem to be able to find what I'm looking for.

To the point.

I wanna shave the handles, but don't wanna go electric solenoids. Anyone here ever kept the key to open the latch? I was thinking there would be a little too much pressure and might break the key off in the lock.

Ideas, comments, concerns?

Ive seen people put a key under the back window to unlock the door then a buttonin the bed to actully pop the door open

Or even rig up a cable latch under the truck like most cars have for a hood latch.A lot of really low trucks i seen mount there gooseneck on top of there c notch.

I'm not really wanting to do anything electronic. Including power windows. And cables can be too obvious when you're at the store...

I have seen some guys here local (tulsa) run the cable into their front fender wells and hide them pretty good, to the point that they just reach in and the door pops and it leaves you wondering how/what they did to work it. but i have no idea how they accomplished it

Well you could always leave your vent window unlocked and reach inside.

Realistically, your looking in the wrong direction. Do you really want to depend on a key to be sturdy enough to unlock your truck? It's not going to last, and your going to be standing outside your truck holding a nub with a really frustrated look on your face.


Do it once, do it right, and be a happy camper...

The electric solenoid is pretty fool proof.... unless you leave the headlights on and drain the battery. Then you are kinda screwed unless you can pop the hood and put a charger or jumper cables on the battery.

Just remember, anything you do to make it easier for you to get in also makes it easier for a crook to get in.

I did use my door lock and I tried to hook up a pull cable fron the lock arm and it did work for a while but I had some problems with the arm on the lock cylinder. The arm would get sloppy so I took it apart and ran solenoids. That was a long time ago and I was much younger and did not take the time to work it out . You may have better luck.

I saw a truck that had a rdo go through the bottom of the cab and there was an assembly that the owner just put his foot on to pull the latch. This would work well with the "Bear Claw latches that has the latch mechanism in the cab "B" pillar and NOT the door.

Since you don't want electric, I'd go the cable route. Just using the key in the lock won't be reliable over time. Either the key will break, or the lock will get sloppy, as mentioned.
