Im a bit stuck here guys, need some advice.. I come to you as not only 67-72 fans but as Chevrolet enthusiasts in general.

Here's the deal...

I am currently in possession of both a '67 GMC SWB stepside and an '86 Monte carlo SS. Sadly come around the end of April/May one of them must be sold..

I just picked up an 86 1500 donor and gutted it completely sent the frame and bare cab to the salvage yard.. I have every part needed to assemble a pretty decent truck, but considering the increasing difficultly in finding either of these vehicles in makes the decision on which to keep all the more difficult.

the GMC will end up w/ either 2bolt. 350/TH350 combo or the Rebuilt 250. all the brakes, steering, a/c, and 3.08 diff. from the 86. the bench from the 67 or the 86 havent decided yet.

The Monte on the other hand since the original owner spun a bearing on the original L69 it has a stock GM Crate 350. the original carb and 200r4 trans (no posi diff). ((am looking for stock SS rims!! or Z28/Iroc)).. but needs interior and suspension. (also have a 305 of the proper year to rebuild the L69) and a 4-bolt 350 in the garage to play w/ in which ever i keep.

pics of both. NEED IDEAS. i get mixed emotions from those around me..

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Drive the monte till the truck is done, then sell it.

Tough decision to make. It's all in what fits your needs and is most affordable I guess. Since the SS is a running car and only needs cosmetic parts it may be your best bet to keep. For a daily driver the SS will be a more comfortable vehicle having power steering, brakes, AC and all. If you are needing to turn one of them into cash it may bring more than the truck.
You come to a truck board looking for support and of course most replys will be to keep the truck.

Like I said i have all the parts needed to add power steering, and brakes on the truck.. and i expected to get most of the replys in favor of the truck, but most of my friends say the Monte so i needed a balance.. its more a matter of which one ill be able to get the most cash for when the truck is done. And as far as fitting my need goes. Im single w/o kids. the only real attraction to the SS is a family history.. Starting with an 87 Aerocoupe when i was 5.. this is # 5 for us, that and the overdrive trans.. although it wouldnt take long to swap them

You should know not to come to a truck forum and ask whether or not to keep a truck over a car. I ove these old trucks but I love the Monte SS's as well. Wish I had both! Basically, it's your decision so I am not much help.

I'd keep the truck.

Cheaper to get parts for and keep running, and less interior hassles since your monte has none. Plus getting the monte interior complete will cost a lot more than getting a PU interior together and looking sharp. Sell the monte, and use the dough to get your PU complete.

Put the drivetrain from the Monte in the truck and drive the wheels off it. Put the 350/350 combo in the Monte and sell it. Then you have the overdrive for the truck.

Two of my favorite cars c10/SS lol. If I were in your shoes I would find away to keep them both,but that's just me.And that donor truck didn't look that bad either would have tried to keep it too lol

both fun whips...but in my opion..I have alot more fun with my truck then any of my old cars...and IMHO id feel safer wrecking my tank of a 71 over an 80's monte anyday

Ide have to say keep the truck.

Reasons being the monte is not all original and in such it wont bring in much.
Where as just about any combo you toss at the truck will be worth more as they are getting very hard to come by in decent shape even not original.

Also the truck is wanted enough that darn near every part is for sale and replacable and so its classic status cant be argued ... dont believe me head to ebay moters and have a look at what some of these trucks restored go for.

While being a fan also of the Monte Carlo and having owned a very nice 1979 with a 406 /350/4:11 car I must say as nice as they may appear they really are not the super car some think they are.
True they are some of the last full frame cars but the value of any of them not factory original is simply in the owners eyes only.

Think of it this way... If ten years from now you regret getting rid of which ever one you sale ... Honestly which one will be harder to find in decent shape for not a lot of cash?
Im still seeing some Monte Carlo SS cars on car lots around where I live from time to time.
But I had to drive 234 miles to get ahold of a less than decent 1972 C-10 Stepside.

In the end the choice is yours but you did ask for opinions right.

In the long run the Monte will bring more money (remember he still has to dump a lot of money in his truck, right now they are worth more in parts than restored in most cases).

I remember when '72 Montes were 250 dollar cars, you can't touch them for less than a few grand now, and that is for a turd, Look at the production #'s of both, you can not say that the truck is going to be rarer, I love the trucks and not a huge fan of any cars built in the 80's, They are what they, are and The SS is probably one of the best bets if you want a collectable car from the 80's, I would sell them both and buy a nice 69 Blazer or Suburban done, but thats me . JMO
