Re: OPEN HEADERS... Friend or Foe?
So I'm still running open headers on my truck, I love it its so loud. I had one of my neighbors call the sheriff on me at 12 in the afternoon. I live in an old subdevelopment in the country. come on alot of the people ride harleys out here, not much louder. basically the sheriff told me im doing nothing wrong, he liked my truck and then told the guy if he wants to sleep in the afternoon get some ear plugs the next time he calls it will be inproper use of the 911 system.

your deputy needs written up. There's a few laws you are in fact violating, both state laws, and federal.
P!ssing off the neighbors is never a good plan. A good neighbor will stop someone knocking out your windows and taking your stereo, a p!ssed off one will hand the guy a hammer. |

Re: OPEN HEADERS... Friend or Foe?
A very good friend of mine bought a 80 Malibu drag car that ran high 7s, low
8s in 1/4 mile. Test and tune the day after he bought it, first pass car shut off at the 1/8th...we were confused. He got back to the trailer falling out of the car and crying his eyes out. That's what happens when: 1. Car runs open headers 2. Car runs on alcohol 3. Forgot to put the access covers back in the floor. He didn't do that again.

Re: OPEN HEADERS... Friend or Foe?
The sheriff told me if he had cought me on public road I could have been in trouble. This said guy recently moved out to this area. I have lived out here for 10 years now. this is the only person to ever have a problem, alot of people in our development build dirt track cars and run them all the time. The sheriff said there is no noise ordnance at 12 in the afternoon, it doesn't kick in till 10pm in the country.

ok, on your property, then yeah, he's right.

Re: OPEN HEADERS... Friend or Foe?
Yeah the subdevelopment is all private. its almost like a big red neck home owners association. If you dont see 4 wheelers, dunebuggies, dirt track cars or something of that nature running around here you start wondering where everyone went.

Re: OPEN HEADERS... Friend or Foe?
nice, all my neighbors have hated us for years for everything from fireworks all night, the brakes going out and running over the stop sign,to the very loud vehicles.

Re: OPEN HEADERS... Friend or Foe?
my Dad and I were pulling my truck to the muffler shop and we had problems with the towbar so my dad drove the truck the rest of the way with open headers, I would have done it but I was barely 16 and he wouldn't let me
before that we ran it with open headers around the house and one time we took it to the nearest gas station (7 miles through the country) and my Mom said she could hear us all the way I'm getting electric cutouts as soon as I can afford them--for the ricers

Imagine what it would be like to have a neighbor with a raised Caprice on 26" wheels creeping by with the obnoxious pounding of the subs. That would get pretty annoying real quick and this is the same type of situation. Music to one mans ears is like nails on a chalkboard to others. Don't get me wrong, it sounds cool. I currently have open headers too and take it around the block once in a great while to knock the dust off(not road ready yet). I wouldn't want to get all of the neighborhood pi$$ed at me from doing it everyday though. |

It just goes to show evryone gets hassled by the man!

Re: OPEN HEADERS... Friend or Foe?
I run mine open all the time, not good for cops, but mine does fine either way, i only have two feet of 3
inch pipe and model 10 flows anyways so i don't notice much of a change in tunning and regular driving, but with opens it pops like a sob when i let off, but for me its worth it.

Re: OPEN HEADERS... Friend or Foe?
Ha ha, it's funny this thread came up today. I just put on headers and can't get into the exhaust shop till thursday. I was going to avoid driving until then, but I read this and said what the hell.
I forgot how many people give you the "look of death" when you're uncorked. Damn, that 454 sure is loud

I used to run my little 64 Vette at the strip on open headers and it didn't hurt anything but the competition!
