Question of the Day - Power Steering

Hey all,

Working on this 1 ton dually (1975). I have to replace the steering box and steering pump. Here is my question:

Will a steering box and pump from a 6.2 Diesel Truck work on a 454 Truck?

The parts truck I found I think is an early 80's Diesel Suburban. Both have the Hydroboost setup.

Thanks,
Scott

Re: Question of the Day - Power Steering

If you have a parts counterman you trust, have him run the numbers for you, it's more than likely that both boxes are Saginaw's (might use a common casting) and will interchange, might have different ratio's or input shaft diameters. Nothing a little fabricobbeling can't fix... Run the part number on what you have and see what else it was used in, a trip thru a Hollander's interchange CD might be enlightening RED (My local NAPA manager is old school, and has a library of the old picture catalogs. There's gold in them thar books.)

Re: Question of the Day - Power Steering

The gear box definitly will and the pump should too but you may have to change the pulley.
