Front Brake Line Hell

Hey all,

Can you give me some advice on removal of the front brake lines? I am working on the 78 Jimmy and doing a full brake job. The lines were rotted out. I got the hardline off the rubber line on the passenger side but am struggling on the drivers side, I also need to know how to get it off the frame. The new ones have a clip on them to hold them on but I don't see the clip on the existing ones, however it is tight and a little dark. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards,
Scott

On the existong ones, instead of a clip, there's a sheetmetal nut that holds it on. You have to screw it off. I feel ya man, for some reason front brake lines at the frame are IMO the hardest thing to get off of the whole truck.

Re: Front Brake Line Hell

I just did a complete brake job-master, lines to the combo valve, lines out of the combo valve to the hoses, hoses, calipers, rear lines, rear hose, rear lines to the cylinders, cylinders on a 1973 1-ton. I found it easiest to just sawzall everything at the fittings. I could then get the fittings off the lines using a 6 point socket, put them on a wire wheel and re-use them, as well as it was FAST. I went to autozone, bought a roll of brake line, borrowed their flare tool and one afternoon later-voila!

Been there too. It fast and less headache.
