99 S10 blazer odometer display

I have a 1999 s10 blazer that recently developed a problem with the odometer and shift indicator display. As I'm driving, the display will sometimes blink on and off and sometimes go out completely. Has anyone had this problem before and if so, how did you diagnose the cause and what was the fix.
Thanks!

Sounds to me you have either a bad ground, or the wire connecting into the back of the cluster, has some slop in it. Only way to really diagnose it is to pull it loose and jiggle the wire to see if you can repeat the problem. Because sometimes just from normal driving, the wires can break inside the insulation and loose contact.

Thanks, I sure miss my old 72 c-10!
I started another post with the new maladies the odometer is presenting me. The odometer won't advance and the trip meter numbers change every time I start the truck. Just shoot me. lol

Can you tell me how to get the old cluster out? COuld this problem be related to a transmission code I got when we scanned the truck?

My X used to own my Blazer and she had related these type of things and I have never seen it. Could it be possible you have a bad battery, battery ground corrosion, or your alternator is failing??? Sounds like the others know whats up, but thought Id throw it out there anyway.

Re: 99 S10 blazer odometer display

if the battery or alt. was bad you would have more problems then just erratic gauges. plus the battery light will come on way before you see any running issues.

and transmission codes will not be part of the ipc. im sure it uses the ecm to monitor the transmission sensors and will set the check engine light.

the cluster is held in by the plasic panel around it. take it off and you will see the screws that hold the gauges to the dash.it can be a pain in the ... to get it owt but im sure you wont have to big of a problem
