Question 700R4 problems/D321 gone/reverse works/HELP Experts

Ok I was racing a Monte last night, and launched from 1st, shifted to 2nd @ 6500rpm, and bomb, it acted like I shifted to neutral, now nothing works but park/LOL And reverse, So I know its not the pump, and not the flywheel, and not the main tranny shaft, what could it be? I guess I have to pull the tranny regardless right? Please any ideas?

Note this tranny has been behind a 400hp(@ least) for over 3 years. First problem.

Check the fluid. It sounds stupid, but mine was acting wierd like that when I didn't have enough fluid in it. Otherwise, I'd say you are screwed. Good luck.

Bend over, and grab your ankles....

You 'blew' it.

There is a component within the transmission that (if original) is really cheesy material. Aftermarket components are much more stout. I don't remember the name of it...it looks kinda like a drum...maybe a sprag thingey...I don't know. Anyway, my transmission guy told me that when that part goes out, it will do just about what yours is doing, based on your description of the symptoms.

Maybe you need a race-prepped 700R, instead of what you had, and I say "had" with tongue in cheek.

If it was working, and it quit, it ain't a fluid problem, although the fluid will probably help show what the problem is, i.e., metal shavings in the pan.

It's gotta suck to be you, right now.

No it's not the fluid I drive it ever day and it was instant failure. Not a drop leaked out. I'm screwed, I just figured a expert here could tell me exactly what I broke from the explaination.

Yes I allready got the ass eating from my girlfriend. Allthough at the time the stop light turned red and the Monte Pulled up and asked to runem she said DO IT! LOL Women! Can't live with them can't afford to loose your truck! LOL

You should have seen the launch! It was nice. Dropped the bag pressure to about 30psi Perfect weight transfer to the rear. I'd say bags are better to have then springs drag racing. What I can't figure is why it did implode on take off.

ChevLoRay

My 700R4 is full race, extra clutches, race silinoids, etc..... It was built by a 40 year vetran. The tranny came out of a Camaro or Vette. 87<

So when I pull it and dismantel it I'll see what broke and see if there's a upgrade I guess.

This tranny is fine. Like I said it's been taking 400hp for 3 years of every day 6000 shifts, smoke shows with 295/50 & posi, donuts every weekend. 180 quick reverse turn arounds etc....... I don't baby this tranny. It's held up very well considering.

based on what kind of abuse you're giving it, wonder why it didn't die sooner.... sounds like you finally fried your clutch pak or stripped your sprag... either way, get whoever rebuilt it to do it again, it held up pretty well...

Not an option out of state! LOL I wish though.

How much for the good red clutches, and a new sprang, and do they make race parts in these pieces??

There's know way that if the TV cable got disconected that the forward gears wouldn't work is there? I pulled the tranny, pulled the pan and every thing appears normal. I'm tearing into the rest now, but I noticed that where the TV cable inserts into tranny the bolt was loose, and when I pulled the cable out it didn't appear atached

Sun gear maybe? Check out 700r4.com. If I remember correctly, they have TONS of aftermarket parts... New planetaries, sun gears, etc... You name it, they've probably got it.

Could be a sticky valve, could it have got dirt in it sometime? Ususally you would see something behind the pump that would have failed major. Heck I ran a tranny that worked fine, the roller cluctch was gone and the rollers pushed against the case and the sun gear was cracked completely in half. It really made me think twice about how it could still move like that, especially in all gears just fine.

Ok guys I found out the part I broke.

It's the "Reaction Carrier Shaft" Broke the shaft clean off the thing! Ok experts out there. Is there a modified piece to replace this other than stock? The tranny guy says he's never seen this piece broke, usually the piece that attaches to it. Whats your ideas? I ordered the B&M downshift kit also. #70237 from Summit.

Ok first I screwed up bought the B&M kit I listed above, and should have bought there "Wide Open throttle kit" And they don't make a aftermarket Reaction Carrier Shaft. I guess it don't usually break. Guess I have to much hp! LOL

Next I checked into Bowtie Overdrive, they appear to be wise. They have modified Sun Shells that's what I'll get for now.

How much Am I expecting to pay for this rebuild I'm just having the parts that are broke replaced, and new seals, the tranny has low miles so everything else is good.
