Re: 5 point racing harness.
Just a little F.y.i. They are not legal for on road use. I even emailed a few companies a few years ago and they all said they are not D.O.T. approved. So you still have to keep the factory belts in place for daily driving. Just wanted to give you a heads up, not sure which direction you are going with putting them in.

Re: 5 point racing harness.
Off the top of my head http://www.speedwaymotors.com/ sells belts and they usually have competitive pricing.
Here is a picture of how they should be mounted. I'm not sure how you would do this in your truck and still be safe. Unless you are just going for looks.

Re: 5 point racing harness.
they are illegal too, and mount just as the above photo, minus the crotch belt.
The only way to do it properly is to anchor the shoulder straps on a roll bar, which wouls be pretty uncomfortable since your seat would be pushed 3 inches or so forward. |

Re: 5 point racing harness.
Talked with the DMV here is Fl when building my Camaro for the street. They said that the SFI harness was allowed in the car since they exceed the requirments of the factory style seat belt when it comes to safety. They do make some out there that say they are not DOT approved, and I would stay away from those. But if SFI 16.1/16.5 approved are allot better than factory, and more bulk to them as well.

Re: 5 point racing harness.
Florida is not in charge of the DOT, nor are they in charge if safety. They have been deligated the athourity to inspect and enforce the laws put in effect by the federal gov.
The reason no 4 point (or more) harness has ever been DOT certified, is becouse if it is installed wrong, it will break your back instantly in any decent impact. Plus, the feds feel that the average joe blow (that's us) doesn't know more about a vehicle's structual integrity, nor how to properly instal equipment that was not intended for use in that vehicle. Those two reasons go hand in hand more than most would ever believe. |
