Re: Chrome aftermarket locking gas caps
Had one like that on my '69 , not a NAPA . After a fill up , a right turn would spill gas all over the road . Ended up with a non locker that does OK . Never fill up to the filler neck though . Just my two cents worth .

Re: Chrome aftermarket locking gas caps
Thanks for all the links!
I' looking for something thats all Chrome or I've seen them in Chrome with a Chevy Bow Tie across them. I'm trying to stay away from your "Standard looking" Stant, Kragen, Grand Auto Gas Caps. Roger |

Re: Chrome aftermarket locking gas caps
Stay away from the plastic ones. They pried it off in 2 seconds with a scewdriver, AKA a pri bar, and got all my gas. I still don't trust the metal ones, but I fortified it with a little Mcgyver action home made cover and no more steeling my gas. Check out my Avitar?

Re: Chrome aftermarket locking gas caps
I have one of those chrome locking gas caps on my truck. It was on the first 69 I got 2 years ago. The guy got it right after he bought it in 91...so its worked good all these years. A little rusty...but trusty.

Re: Chrome aftermarket locking gas caps
72 caps are not the same dia. as the other years. Due to the introduction of no lead fuel the fill tube dia. is smaller than earlier years. Unless someone swapped the tank for an older one he would need one for a 72 only.

Re: Chrome aftermarket locking gas caps
I know this isnt what you ask but it isnt worth the trouble. If I want to steel your gas you haveing a locking gas cap just means I am going to have to walk back to my truck to get a screw driver and since I am a theif I wouldnt care if anything falls in your tank. Just my .02

Re: Chrome aftermarket locking gas caps
So correct me if I'm wrong,
There are 3 things I can think of when looking to purchase a Chrome Locking Gas Cap: 1)Wheather your Tank is "Vented" or not. 2)Whether it has an EEC System. 3)The size of the neck in relationship to the Cap. I'm looking at the 3 Major parts distributors for GMC parts and they List exactly what I'm looking for in a Gas Cap only it is for 67-71 GMC. I have a 72 GMC. Unless it was a Screw on type cap, I feel that as long as I follow the 3 guidlines above, I should be OK..............correct? Roger "RATIKLE"

Re: Chrome aftermarket locking gas caps
I have a 72 c/20. I am the second owner and have owned it for about 10 years. I have NO idea if they are available or not, but mine has a conical spring looking thing that fits down inside the filler neck. It keeps a tube from getting down in there accept a really small one (ive tried for my lawn mower). You would be hard pressed to syphon gas in any decent amount of time out of that truck. Of course it does NOTHING for the issue of people putting stuff IN your gas tank. I don't know if this is helpful or not but, it might be worth it if you have a hard time finding a locking fuel cap.

The locking caps are stainless.

Re: Chrome aftermarket locking gas caps
OK I checked my Truck at my Mechanic's yesterday.
It DOES have an EEC System. It does not have a "Threaded Neck" nor a "Deep Cam". In fact, the cap that is on there now, closely resembles, a radiator Cap (it isn't though). The cap that is currently on there is NOT a Vented Cap. So I'm inclined to just order a Chrome Locking Cap from Classic Industries for $6.95 and see if it works. It is more about aesthetics than to protect someone from stealing my gas or putting some CRAP INTO my Tank. In the 20 seconds it takes a Thief to go get a Screwdriver, he may think twice and go for the Gas in the Vehicle that is parked a couple lengths down the street. Now getting back on topic, if I were to put a Non Vented Gas Cap on an EEC system, what is the worse that could happen? Would the Truck stop running because there was now a non vented cap on it, causing (lets say) the Gas Tank to collapse inwards/suction? I'm sure the cap that's on it now is NOT vented, and I've been driving it for 2 weeks with no adverse effects. Roger "RATIKLE"

Re: Chrome aftermarket locking gas caps
Ok for what's worth. I had a non vented locking cap on my 68 4x4 pickup. After a short while the tank did indeed suck in and I heard the gas gauge float hitting on the inside of the tank. I went back to a nice chrome vented non-locking cap.

Re: Chrome aftermarket locking gas caps
This is true, however I even took care of that. I made the gas thief not like me.
