12 volt supply
Trying to connect my holley 600 choke wire to a 12volt source other than my ignition wire. Don't want to steal voltage from my distributor.. Anyone know of another wire that supplies 12 volts only when the ignition is on?

Unless you have an HEI, your ignition wire is only about 9 V.
Putting that aside, you should be able to pull a switched 12 V source off your fuse block, someplace. I'm not trying to be a hard a**, or a butthead, but you can pull off of other circuits there. I hope that helps you at least a little bit. LJ P.S. Welcome to the board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kinda on the same line, i converted to hei, and an electric fuel pump. i have 1 12 gauge wire routed from the ignition, to the right side of the engine where it splits into 3 leads, 1 to hei 1 to choke, and one to pump. that be ok to run that much amperage through that one line? Or should i install some relays and wire directly from the batt?

get a voltmeter and check the open spades in your fusebox for 12 volt sources that come on when your headlights do

You actually want a key on source. You can put on your head lights with the key off.

there should be more than one ignition lead coming off the ignition switch you could run it off that.

There is a switched connector in the fuse box, run off of that, you don't need the full 12V for a choke, just enough to heat up the element.

Well, I'm kinda just shooting in the dark here. When I initially installed the Holley 600 I connected the choke wire to the ignition, cranked it and it idled up as it should have then settled back down once warmed up. Did this for two days and now it seems that the choke is not responding at all anymore. So I read the carb manual and read where it stated not to use the ignition wire as the source but to find an alternative 12v ignition activated source and here I am.. I don't have a meter to meassure the open spade in the fuse box and I have upped to the HEI..

I'm sure the HEI will like the 12v. You could get a meter at Wal-mart for around $10. There not the fanciest, but they work and you can keep it in your truck.

When it's really cold, I just pump the throttle twice & then hold it about 1/2 way down. When I hit the starter, it generally fires right off. Sometimes, I admit, I have to crank it a bit; but not real often.

You should have "ign unfused" that is key hot, just use an inline fuse.

thanks for posting the picture of the fusebox. mine got overspray on it and you can't read it. I have to guess where everything goes.
