What is this?
I meant to take a picture but didnt have a chance last night. I am wiring my engine back up after replacing it and I have a single black wire with a rubber connector on the end that slides over a spade connector. Does this by chance go to the idiot light for the temp? I cant remember what i took it off of. I looked at all the wiring diagrams i could find and can find no such black wire.

Re: What is this?
Could be oil temp sender (reaches left side of block btw first two cyl),
water temp sender (top of engine front of intake manifold). Tach wire to HEI? Starter Trigger Wire? Ground for Elec choke? How long is it and what does it reach? is it part of the engine harness or by itself?

Re: What is this?
It had a connector on it to bolt to the back of the block then run to the passenger side of the engine. This is why I was thinking it went to the temp idiot light. Im pretty sure thats where it went but regardless its not hooked up any more and theres nothing to hook it to so Im not to worried about it. ITs running now and temp and everything works so Im good to go.

Re: What is this?
If it is a round rubber connector with the female spade terminal in it, off center, it goes to the oil pressure sender on the left rear side of the block

Re: What is this?
are we talking about a 67 - 72?
The oil pressure is mechanical, soit has a pipe, not a wire, and it is at the back of the block by the intake. On the head, between the exhaust ports, that's the temperature sensor, but it gets a green wire. Do you have a photo of this wire? Where is it located under the hood? |

Re: What is this?
Yes its a 72. The wire was just a single black wire by itself that had a holder that bolted to a bell housing bolt. I have the oil pressure connected to the back of the block going inside the cab to my gauge as well as the green wire going to my temp sender. I know both of those and I know the rest its just this one stumped me as I cannot remember taking it off anything and its not in any wiring diagram I have found for the engine compartment. Oh and it does come out of the engine wiring harness that does not appear to have ever been tampered with. Till me that is and all I did was cut off some of the old greasy cloth wire loom and replace it with plastic. I cut this connector off as I did the points yellow wire but left the wires just taped them off to the original harness. Here is a pic if this helps.

Re: What is this?
Nope and nope. Theres a brown wire going to the proportioning valve and a pinkish 10GA wire going to the blower motor. Good suggestions though.
