Re: 1971 3/4 swap to 1/2 ton
It has some farm tires on it. I know that the rear tires are 33's, but not sure about the front. I did have to remove the wheel wells also since it would rub when I made sharp turns. The ride is good on the highway, but if you hit a big bump you will feel it, but nothing like the bouncy ride in a car with hydros. I haven't done any other work to it lately, but summer is around the corner and the nights will be long. I do have an extra pair of new Monroe air shocks for the truck that I will sell for $40.00. I made a mistake on my order and ordered 2 sets and never returned them. You shouldn't need them though unless you also have 33 inch tires.

Also you will not have a nice alignment unless you get the drop spindles or shim it out. I personally dont care about that though since it still drives straight and I dont drive it enough to wear out the tires.

Re: 1971 3/4 swap to 1/2 ton
Nice truck, and good call on keeping the D-60. Nobody mentioned to you that if you swapped in a 12 bolt, your drive shaft would have been too short by 1.75". The slip joint would/could pop apart.
Again, nice truck.

What do you mean shim it out? Is it something I need to do when I put the coil springs in? I planned on doing it this weekend.

Charles..... Man oh man.... Your stance is leaving me speechless.
I have a 72' GMC 3/4 ton and have been stuck on whether or not to convert over to 5 lug.... I want to lower it and i can't afford bags. It's crazy cuz' your truck looks just like mine only beautifully budget slammed and primer gray. I painted wide whites on mine about a month ago and get about the same reaction you probably are except yours looks so damn sweet sitting that low.... Does your front tires rub at all when turning? |
