HEI parts interchange?

Im in the middle of the HEI swap on my 250cid. I picked up the entire set-up from a 76 c-10. Its the style w/ the coil mounted off the cap. not sure where the coil should be mounted.... I also have the cap and coil for a later model that mount together. I know the cap will mount to the distributor but i know the towers have a diff. location... Anyone know if the rotors are interchangeable or am i better off mounting the coil to the inner fender and putting the "combo mount" stuff on the shelf?

my camera is in Colorado at the moment or i would put pics up to clear any confusion about the Distributor caps in question.

Re: HEI parts interchange?

What you are trying to say is that you have both an in-cap coil setup and an eternal coil setup.

It is striclty your choice which you run. There's no real compelling reason to choose one over the other. Just whatever you prefer to look at when you open your hood.

If memory serves me, I do believe the rotors are different between the two.

Personally, I have run the coil-in-cap units simply because they are self contained and no hassle of bolting the coil to someplace nearby.

Re: HEI parts interchange?

The only reason I'd run a dist. with an external coil is if I had an AC compressor that needed the clearance. That's why the dist. came like that in the first place.
