Minor Facelift Surgery, '63 chevy w/'61 chevy hood and GMC grill...

I finally got my grill on. It was not without issues. Turns out the grill was a big truck grill and required 1/2 ton mounting brackets. After finally getting it mounted, I had wiring issues. Bought all new headlights and had to fix one headlight plug with a bad ground blade. Now everything works and is mounted up and looking great (I think so anyway).

I still haven't decided what to do about the bar under the grill that used to mount the "GMC" letters. I'll either find a '50's car center bar that fits and looks cool or cut it off. Like I said, I'm still undecided.

I also took the hood down to bare metal and primed it. I found a couple of pinholes and a couple of dime sized holes. I'm also still undecided about the stock hood badges. Part of me wants to run them, part of me says smooth and clean is better.

Before...

After...

I've got some good fenders with no rust coming from a trade (mine have holes and bondo). I'll be taking those down to bare metal along with the bed and put those in primer. The bed is in awesome shape without holes. The cab, however, is a different story. I've got a hole above the windshield, a hole on each side of the floor and holes in the door bottoms (outside and inside). After I get the rest of the body in primer, I'll start fixing the cab.

Nice work! It's kind of a love/hate as far as the hood goes. I think it looks cool on your truck. So today I'm lovin' it.

DAMN that truck looks good!

I love the combo of the pod hood, the GMC grille and the two tone.

I also love those black steelies.

Could you maybe find some "Chevrolet" letters and mount them in the space where the "GMC" was?

Very nice looking combo. Everyone uses the 63 and up hoods so it's definitely nice to see some originality.

Thanks. It'll eventually all be oxide red prmer. I'm taking the body down to bare metal a panel at a time to find holes/bondo and fix them. I'm getting some good fenders from a buddy, so just cab, doors, grill opening, and bed to go. The doors will need patch panels, everything else is just pinholes or small dents/dings. After all that will be some satin paint, maybe black, blue, or orange, and skinny whitewalls. I thought about some Chevrolet letters on the bar. I think some from a '61 chevy grill would work. If I could find some, that is.

I always wonder how a chevy hood would look like with a gmc grill.
I like it.

I like the early GMC hood almost as much as the '61 chevy hood. They are pretty much non existant around here though.

Thanks. I've got Jeep TJ coils in the rear along with 3" blocks. In the front, I cut two coils. The front is pretty much on the bumpstops though. I've got another set of control arms with the bumpstop brackets shaved off I need to swap. It should get me enough travel for a better ride.

Man that looks great! That center gap is just beggin' for some teeth from an early 50's Mercury or a Desoto to set off the eye-like headlights. What will become of the 63 hood? I'm always looking for an extra.

I gave it to a buddy in exchange for some lower control arms witht he bumpstops shaved off and some control arm shafts and a pair of nice front fenders. Didn't you say you had some decent doors at one time?
