71 K10 Rear Leaf Spring/bushing removal?
Just wondering how the heck you get the bolts out to take out rear leaf spring packs and bushings to replace the bushings.
Had my impact on them and a big hammer and majority wont budge. We got one end to come out and the bushing has us confused as far as removal. Does it need to be hydraulically pressed out or what. Also, do we need to apply heat to the bolts to get them out? Let me know thanks guys!

I had to burn the bushings out with a propane torch. Its the easiest way. Then you can get the bolts out by wrenching or in some cases cutting then off. Its not a easy or fun job.

so you burnt out the bushings BEFORE you took the springs off their mounts?

the bolts are fused to the rubber bushings with rust and 40years of crap// if yuo heat the bolts up it should aid in breaking them free of the rubber then when the springs are off the truck burn the bushings out

I burned enough of the bushing rubber to loosen the bolts up. If you use a propane torch and limit the heat you will be ok. Then drive the bolts out and remove the springs and finish burning out the rubber. I beat on the bolts on mine until my arms gave out but when I hit the rubber with heat they gave up quickly.

Keep on burning and beating. I had to cut one nut off. It wouldn't come off any other way. Like my stockbroker said as I was losing my money "You can't be faint of heart and do this stuff" I fired him!

well guys, i used a cutting torch to get the bolt red hot and bang... they came out! Got the new bushings and bolt on and the leaf springs are back in place just gotta use the inpact. I figured, since i just get the rear bushings... why not do the front right?????

Just goofing around with you. After the hard time with the rear bushings the last thing I would look forward to is doing the fronts. Come to think I did all mine at one time too!
