Front spring stop adjustment - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

There is a a spring stop on the driver's side of my 4x4's and I would like to know where to set it. I believe that these did not originally come out on trucks but were added as a recall.

Attached is a picture of what I am calling a spring stop as it may go by another name.

I hate those things. I don't have one on my truck, but I never had one on my truck. I'd say loose it.

Since stock front springs are almost flat, the shackle moves very little during suspension flex. When the wheel travels up, the spring actually shortens. If you have changed to any kind of lift spring, you will likely have to move/eliminate that stop. You need to make sure that the shackle can not make contact with the stop under normal suspension flex.

Thanks for the reply. The spring contacts the stop just at times like when going over a dip.

I have room to move them out for more clearance and will do that. I initially set up four of our 4x4's with 1/8"-3/16" clearance but they all contact the stop under some conditions.

Just measured mine, has a Rancho 4" lift. Seems like there is a 3/4" space between the back of leaf spring eye and the stop

The stop bracket is 1 5/16" off of the body mount bracket
