Re: Project Boosted

Been awhile since I posted, got the jimmy all done, still needs some final tune work but it hits about 10psi, almost no turbo lag. Dyno'd 419hp, 492tq, did it in fourth gear and pulled to about 5600rpm, hit a 150mph. Needs gears in a bad way, I haven't even used fifth or sixth. Have a narrowed up nine inch built and ready to be installed 4.56 gears, detroit, disc brakes and a set of mickeys 29x 18.5. Cant wait, this thing is a tire killer right now.I have been terrible about taking pictures but here are a few more. Ive got about 2500 hard miles on this rig and it is running amazing, puts smile on my face every gear.

Re: Project Boosted

As soon as I finish collecting all the parts. I need to find some stock rally wheels to send in and get my 15x14s built, dont want to send mine in because I want to keep driving it. Just need ebrake cables, wheels, master cylinder swap, driveline and time.

Smile Re: Project Boosted

The plan has changed a bit since I last posted, I put 4.10's and a posi in it for last summer, the narrowed up 9" is going in real soon I need to build my new trailing arms and do a c-notch but I sold the mickeys and am going to run a little more streetable tire. I love driving this thing so much that the pro street tire isn't a wise decision, I am going to do a 29-15.5-15 mickey thompson st, it will hold up alot better for all the street driving this thing sees. I am waiting on my new seats to arrive I ordered a set of sb bomber seats and a custom rear bench from Eddie Barrett seats, I recently had a baby boy and can't wait to get him out on the road with me, been a bit lonely driving around with no family so the seats are going to be my favorite upgrade

Re: Project Boosted

A few more things done on my jimmy, stripped and painted the complete underside with por 15, new front springs and balljoints, new front swaybar, built some new trailing arms, installed my narrowed up 9" with 4.56 gears and detroit and rear disc brakes and c-notch. Now all thats left to do before I can drive it is rear shock mounts and build my new seat mounts. I am super stoked to drive it, its been about 8 months since I drove it last. It has been quite the project the last 3 months.

Re: Project Boosted

What clutch are you running?

Also...how are those Mickeys hooking? I am running the BFGs 315's and I am hoping for some hook. I also hope I can use the digital 7AL ignition to help in the traction dept. But we will see.

Oh yeah, I was meaning to ask if you put a bead roll on those charge tubes where you've got them attached with the silicone hoses. If so, how did you do it?

Re: Project Boosted

I am running a southbend ceramic clutch, only reason it was slipping was because i was neutral dropping it and trying to powerbrake it. All of my charge tubes have beads rolled on ends, i had the local header supply shop roll them onto my tubes

Re: Project Boosted

What was the reason for the 4.56 gears with the turbo setup. Most turbo rigs that I've had experience with like a higher rear gear to load the engine and spool the turbo better. Granted with a T61, you should have NO problem getting it to spool.

Re: Project Boosted

The reason for the 4.56 is the double overdrive the t-56 has I wasn't even able to use 5th or 6th, when I went from 3.07 to 4.10s last summer that let me use 5th and I got a good deal on a third member with new 4.56 and detroit so that made the decision for me. The turbo has very little lag time and with the lower gears it really comes on strong and quick, makes it a real blast to drive.

Re: Project Boosted

That makes sense to want to be able to use every bit of that T56.

Funny how every setup is different. I'm geared at 3.73 behind a 4L80E, and my truck felt lots stronger at highway speed when i went to a 28" M/T radial from a 26 M/T radial. Didn't really notice much additional lug at low speeds, and the turbo lit a little sooner.

Pretty sweet rig you got there.
