Any reason I can't use this?
Here has been my thinking as I am planning to flip the axle in my '71 Chevy.
Why not use a pair of these and apply some welding? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-720025/ Throw in a couple pairs of these: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CEE-7030/ Or something like this instead: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DJM-LB3LK/ Is there some reason this would be a bad idea? It seems that it would be a lot cheaper than $156.99 (Around $114 cheaper). |

Re: Any reason I can't use this?
I believe by him sayin flip the axle he is referring to lowering his truck. leaf springs came on top of axles trailing arms were already on the bottom.
so assumin its leaf which im 95% sure it is. Yes this can be done thats exactly how my 70 gmc is done. welded spring perches on and u bolts. |

I have one of those rare things where my Chevy was ordered with the Leaf rear. I actually have a coil rear with trailing arms that I was considering swapping to my truck but, I just cannot bring myself to do it. It would definitely be cheaper to use this kit and flip what I have now. |

Re: Any reason I can't use this?
Actually, I have seen it done, more than once. You asked for reasons you couldn't use that set up without giving any details of what you have, other than a 71 chevy.
I believe chevy's came in c10 half ton coil or leaf, c20 three quarter ton coil or leaf c30 leaf(have never heard of a c30 with coils) as well as many other larger trucks. I guess in the future I will have to keep better track of what each of the 50,000+ members have. Sorry Good luck with your project. Frank

Sorry Frank to have not placed all of the details in my original post. No one could be expected to keep track of all the board projects.
Why did these folks flip their coil spring rear axle? I am really curious about this now having never seen this done. |

Re: Any reason I can't use this?
One was a 4x4 conversion. they flipped the rear coil axle and added a second set of trailing arms to the front, fabbed spring buckets and added f150 front coils.
And a couple on farms (wheat, alflalfa and sugar beats) although I'm not real sure why they did it. When you look at the pre packged flip kits, they are just the components you listed. Save a few bucks and put the kit together yourself. Frank

Re: Any reason I can't use this?
That was what I was thinking. The kits are made up of very few parts and yet the price is ridiculous. I did not know if perhaps I was missing something.
