How much trouble am I asking for?

I am flying in to VA on Friday to pick up my new '69 C10 4x4 (see attached photos) and as soon as I get it back to ATL, I want to start looking to convert it from the stock manual 3sp to a TH350 or TH400. I have found a couple t/c and tranny combos on Craigslist but most don't include crossmembers, lines, etc.

How much trouble am I looking to get into if I find a good condition t/c and tranny but have to piece together everything else? Any examples of your own swap over would be appreciated.

Mac

Re: How much trouble am I asking for?

All the swaps I`ve done were using complete assemblies. It`s just the easiest way.

Re: How much trouble am I asking for?

I just got thru with this: I put a 208 tc behind a 350 turbo and i had a 3 spd on the column. Along with this i installed a 6" Tuff Country lift kit. I used the same cross member, But had to have spacers between the cross member and the trans mount and then spacers between the cross member and the frame to clear the front drive shaft. I had to buy the front and rear drive shafts, and there is some adapters and blocks that go between the trans and the tc i had to buy. I bought hydraulic lines to run from trans to trans cooler. Had to buy the cooler it wasn't that much but still had to buy. Bought a Lokar shifter for the floor, (they are not to cheap) that i'm not completely happy with but will have to work for now. Got to have a longer speedometer cable. Different fly wheel, starter, tourqe converter, all the bolts, and alot of other odds and ends. For me it was like i was running into problem after problem but it was probably just lack of experience, and not having what i needed there to keep working. But with patience and time i am now finished. Well almost i will probably have to cut the spring brackets off the front end and rear end to get the right drive shaft angle and then re-weld back on.

Re: How much trouble am I asking for?

Thanks BeechCreek for all the info, sounds like a lot I could learn from your troubles doing this without finding a complete swap over donor A/T. Chuck, I am headed back home to Waynesboro in the Shenandoah Valley where I grew up...... I can't wait!
