Rebuilding upper door hinge. Any tips?

I need to replace the pins in the upper hinges. The rebuild itself it straight forward, so I am looking for any tips from those of you that have done this already.

Things like; do the hinges need to come off the cab, or can this be done while still bolted on. Will anything come shooting out at me when I pull it apart? Any other tips or pointers you can throw out would be great!

When I do this I will take lots of pics and try to do a write up for Krue to throw in the FAQ section.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Rebuilding upper door hinge. Any tips?

get some PB blaster.. it's wayy better then wd40..
when you do the work IIRC have someone hold the door so it dosent tweak your lower hinge
but ive done this off truck usually as a "might as well" while i have had the door off..

it's also a good chance to check for rust and wirewheel/primer any rusted areas...
good luck!

OH if you drop your door lower the glass it brings the weight down lower and makes it easier to handle..
lower bolts first.. it'll make it easier during door removal

and if you put your door "down' put it on some carpet... it stops the lower lip from dinging..

Re: Rebuilding upper door hinge. Any tips?

Thanks! How much of a pain is it to unplug everything? Are there easy to unplug electrical connections (locks and windows), or is it a wire cutter type job?

Re: Rebuilding upper door hinge. Any tips?

well honestly.. once you "wiggle" out the grommet
use a skrewdriver.. 1 tip or a 00 tip..
remove door pannels..
remove plugs from switches
patientely remove the wire bundle (if you get over agressive you'll scratch the wiring which is a no no)
pull the wiring bundle out of the way and use some masking tape (no residue) to tie off the wire bundle out of the way
then proceed to loosen ALL bolts.. (not removing)
start low to high
then remove the lower bolts completely then the uppers..
please have someone with you because this is uncomfortable and a SERIOUS pain in the buttox todo by yourself.. and this is something that a spouse can help with.. the door itself is not that heavy...

then lay the door down on some carpet (protect the paint)
and dont smash it into stuff..
and you'll be set..
it's super basic even though the explination is long..
ive done it several times..
and yes powerwindos does suck compared to crank windows..

but once you "fish" out the wire you'll be set..
