Think I found what looks like a 50th anniversary truck

Well Guys
I have never personally seen one here in Iowa, but i happen to see one today at a local mechanics shop. It looks like a 50th but it didnt have the upholstery pattern maybe got recovered?? and i didnt get a chance to look at the codes either. I stopped in to ask about it, They said it belongs to an older gentleman, I guess it smokes on start up quite a bit so i left the mechanic my business card and told him to give it to the man if he wanted to sell it. I am guessing he wont sell it since he has it at the shop. but you never know.. This truck is really straight and fairly clean for what you will find around Iowa.
thanks
John

So what year is the 50th? Looks like a 68 since it has the side markers and the sloping hood line.

Alright guys, now you got me wondering.........I've only owned this truck for 15 years, and have never heard of the 50th anniversery editions. I look at these pics and say, "Hey, there's my truck!"

What are the options on the 50th? My truck was the gold and still is white 2 tone, custom, 307, powerglide, no p.s or power brakes, wood bed 8 ft fleetside, 1/2 ton, bench seat, "jr west coast mirrors", speed alert, am radio. I can get more option codes if needed.

Paint code tells it all. I forget the code but its only used on Ann. models. Post your paint code.

This might help:
It was cut from an earlier post:

The most important part of the 50th package will be the 551 (Ivory White/Gold) paint code.
Pickups and Sports Vans will have a gold and parchment interior 625.
Suburbans and Panels will have fawn interiors.
The pickups, burbs and panels will have chrome bumpers and the side trim option. Not sure about Sports Vans
Pickups two-tone paint job will include that Ivory roof and Ivory on the bottom of the truck, as well as the grill.
Burbs and Panels will only have the Ivory on the roof and the grill.
It will at least be a "custom”. It could be a CST.
Any engine could be had, but most that I have seen have the 327.
I did not have to be a loaded vehicle.

All the information about was deciphered from the 1968 Chevrolet Salesman’s Data Book.

Have fun

There is another color that is close to the gold which has a color code of 555 or 4555aa. It is called saddle. I don't know if it came with the off/white combo.
Here is a link of some 50th truck pics.
http://groups.msn.com/196772Chevrole...niversary.msnw
You can also search the archives of this site for some intresting information on this model of truck.
I don't really think that the value is anymore than other 1968 models of the same condition. Just a unique limited production vehicle.

Have fun

Hutch,

Thanks. I just did some searches and know I've got the gold dash pad, which is rare in itself. The seat had a red seatcover already on it, so I never say the origional cover. Someone has painted over the gold with what looks like the yellow/orange color from '71-72. Sorry I call it ugly, those are my daughter's words. The white 2-tone is still there. It had the oem chrome hubcaps when I purchased it for, gulp, $300. It was for the most part unmolested when I bought it. I removed the mirrors after many close calls, put a 71 disc brake set-up, and removed the VERY tired 307 & powerglide out (had 165,000 at the time).

That yellow orange color is called Ochre.
It is one of those colors that kind of grows on you.
If you ever get to see a truck with this color that is in show condition it would help to change you mind.
Years ago (about 18)I passed up a 72 swb 4x4 cheyenne only because of the color Ochre.
What a mistake.
These trucks and a lot of cars from this era were painted the popular greens and yellows of the times.
My 71 has the 307 p/g combo in it.

It sounds like you got yourself a keeper.

Have fun

I think if you see a 68 with the off-white/gold/off-white combo you can be pretty sure it's a 50th. That 2-tone paint scheme with off-white below the molding was only available on the 50ths in 68. The normal 2-tone paint scheme fo 68 just had the top of the cab off-white. You should also have gold/parchment vinyl listed on you glove box indicating your seat colors.

Speedalert, Do you have any pictures of you truck? It sounds like a winner.

That means it is not a 50th.
The 50 had the 551 off white/gold, and the 627 paech/vinyl trim for the int.

toms68cst,

Hard to believe that after 15 plus years I have no pics that I can remember of the truck. Hopefully someday soon I can get a digital camera. If I find one I'll post. I winner now?.......not really. Could be someday?...........hope so.

longhorn, now I,m confused. You say it should have 627 peach/vinyl trim yet hutch says the 625 parch. Elaborate? After looking at your web-site i'm certainly not going to argue with you (I'll leave that up to hutch, hehe). Loved you site BTW.

On the color code the "?" in the 455?AA is scratched where I can't read it. It does definitely say "off-white/gold" though.

Steve

That looks like a 50th to me. Just because it does not have the original seat, doesnt mean that it isn't. Look for the parchment door pannels and gold painted metal parts of the interior. Also it should have the a gold steering wheel. The truck also has the side trim that it needs to be a 50th. Also I think it has to be a 'custom' or a 'cst'. And i see the 'custom' emblem on the door

This should help:

If it says "off white/gold" that question mark is a "1". You do have a 50th! Congrats! As for retirement? I doub't it. Most people don't even know they exist.....lol

well I looked at it again this morning (before it left for school with my son) and the "?" mark on the paint code looks like there may be the top of a "1" still there.

I have the gold steering wheel sitting in a box in the garage, having put on a smaller Jeep wheel. All the metal in the interior is gold, had gold seat belts, parchment vinyl door panels & sun visors, gold rubber floor mat. As mentioned it is a custom, trim set up and paint scheme is identical to the pic posted by jjg at the top of the thread.

Steve

Looks like l'll have to change my sig. now, drat!!!

4551...now I get it.
Sorry I've only seen it as 551. Some trucks had extra numbers in front of the codes, while others did not.

Have you checked your paint & interior option codes?
