Has anyone relocated the battery box?

I've got the front clip off my truck and am in the process of painting the frame and the motor. I'm replacing the rad support as well, so I had to trash it, and am left witgh the bettery box. I took out the heater box and probably wont put it back in, but I was wondering if I should relocate the box to where the heater box was. Has anyone done something like this? Searching didnt yield anything.

Most people mount them on the frame if they move it at all. Typically in a watertight box welded to the frame often under the cab or bed. Under the bed is also a popular spot for extra batteries for trucks that have large audio systems or bags.

Old custom classic trucks have soul. Their dashboards aren't plastic, and they've survived both the best and worst of what the 20th century had to offer. For the owners of these trucks, it's often the same story. Through both good and bad times they persevered, until one day they could turn the key and roll up in a customized truck everyone with good taste would admire.Custom Classic Trucks

Re: Has anyone relocated the battery box?

Somebody added a bigger radiator when they did the V8 swap. They had to move the battery from the radiator support to the passenger side inner fender towards the front of the truck. I'd prefer it to be back in the stock location. My front end was so low (not very low) that the tire rubbed on the battery box when turning full left. I had to cut a hole in the bottom corner of the battery box and raise the battery up about an inch to clear the tire when turning.

And no pics of the engine bay yet. I'm too embarrassed, it's nasty. I'm working on it though.

Re: Has anyone relocated the battery box?

I hear ya, mine is rusty and crusty..... Soon it will be nice. My '57 Chevy PU has the battery tray on the firewall, it seems to work out fine. I think I'll do it, plus it'll be a little different than other 4-5-6.

Re: Has anyone relocated the battery box?

I moved mine up to where the heater box was on the firewall once. I really didn't like it there so I moved it back to the origional spot. I think I still have the battery box that I modified to put there somewhere. Now I wish I would've taken some pictures of it there..................Hemmit
