I have a frame question.

This past weekend I met a man who was checking out my 71 lwb at the parts house. I approached the man and was asked if i would be interested in converting from long to short frame, he said he had a 72 swb rolling chasis that he would let go for a couple hundred bucks. After a short conversation i followed the man to the location of the frame. When i arrived i noticed there was a long frame stacked on top of the short one, he said it was also a 72 that he wanted gone as well. The short chasis looked perfect and even had a couple of custom rims on the steer end, 5 bolt lug pattern , 12 bolt rear, even has the steer gear box. I did not have a straight edge to put along the frame but eyeballing it , it seemed perfect. Would this be a good deal for 200 dollars, or could i possibly get hurt on this deal? Money is very tight right now for me. Thanks, Shawn

Re: I have a frame question.

IMO, since things are tight, you should pass on this for now. Sounds like a fair deal but, do you have a short box, driveshaft, etc. for the conversion? This will cost you more than the initial $200.
Maybe when things get better, this chassis will still be available and if not, you always have the option of shortening your existing frame.
Just my toonies worth.

no clue what they are worth down there, but you would be hard pressed to get less than 2 bills out of the long frame here.

you might be able to make some profit, depends who wants it, and what they are willing to pay. it may take awhile to flip it....

Not sure if this is the correct forum but, if this is your plan, it might just work out for you.
Also, as My67CT says above, unless you've got someone in mind, you might be sitting on it for a while. Good luck!
