stock height of a rear c10 coil please help

i need to know the stock height of a rear coil spring for a 60-72 c10 mines a 66 if that matters. i purchased a set of rear chevelle coils because i heard they would drop the rear but they look much taller. it could be the weight of the truck so i need to know how tall they are out of the truck. the coils are only temp. im trying to drive the truck to a show tomorrow but i dont want it sitting stock. also if anyone has any piks of rear drop blocks they have made id appreciate it also.

dragn91, I will get you a measurement tonight, as I have a stock rear coil I just pulled off my truck. It might have settled a little of the rears, but not by much.

That is if someone doesn't beat me to it...

The unloaded length (heigth) of the coils is about the same IIRC, but look at the diameter of the wire used to make the spring. The truck spring is much larger in diameter. The Chevelle spring is a lighter weight/in spring rate and will lower the truck and give a softer ride.

damn the chevelle springs i bought are 16 1/2 even though the metal is thinner i dont see the compressing that much. does anyone know what year people are useing to get a decent drop? these are off a 1967

Jeep Wrangler springs. Get them at a shop that performs lifts on Jeeps. They let the stock springs go cheap. got mine for 10 bucks apiece. About an inch shorter than the truck's stockers and a lot lighter guage.

do you have to mod anything to fit the wrangler springs? they look smaller diameter, what years work? those are off the front right? how much drop would be expected? sorry for all the questions, but i really need a cheaper way to lower my truck!

We are talking rear springs here. The jeep springs bolted right in using the stock spring retainers (ears). This lowered the back of the truck over 4 inches. I was going to get 2 inch lowering blocks as well but decided I didn't need them after getting the springs in. This with new 205/65-15 tires slammed the back end. This pic is from a really bad angle to show the stacne but it's the only one I can get to right now...I'm at work. I'll try to post a good one taken on the garage floor later.

thanks! i would like to do this, as it seems cheapest. so what i need, is rear jeep wrangler coils springs?

what can i do up front? just cut em or what would yall suggest? im going for budget right now, just to get it down some

thats pretty neat. ill have to look into that. i always thought jeeps ran paralell leafs. been trying to figure out what to do to my trucks rear end. im also doin a bugetbuild on my 65

how much lbs will I be able to haul without bottoming out? and you say there about a 4.5" drop?

Don't waste your time. I just put a set in the rear of my truck, and it DID NOT lower it AT ALL. I have read on here several times that you will get a 4" drop using these coils and I would like to know who has actually done it and measured it. I put the coils side by side and they were identical in height. The lighter gauge of the Wrangler coils makes for less weight rating, but even standing in the bed with another person it only went down about a 1/4"

You are looking for 97-06 Wrangler (often refered to as a TJ) REAR springs. The TJs use
coil springs and they get junked all the time when the jeep gets lifted.

Not sure about your problem leddzepp. Are you sure they were stock height jeep springs? The factory jeep spring itself is shorter than the OEM truck spring so you should have at least seen some drop....

Positive, still have the stickers on them. REAR springs from an 03 TJ Wrangler. They are slightly shorter than factory truck springs (so slight it is insignificant), a lot thinner gauge, but other than that, identical. It dropped at most 1/4", far far short of the 4" claims I read on here.

That sucks. I know its a pretty common swap. Wonder how much they settle or if everyone else was using junk yard ones.

its possible that your stock springs had settled 4 inches. lol. on the other hand, those TJ springs may have been from a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon edition, i believe those sit higher from the factory.
