dually trucks

Been looking over the website for the last couple of days (with dial-up) trying to find a couple of pictures of converted trucks. What I am looking for exactly is one truck in particular. The rear tires were tucked under quite a ways so that the bed of the truck just about covered the outside dual. i know the owner more than likely used a C&C rear axle. But I was wondering if he had to tub the inner fenders or not. With the measurements I have taken with the parts I have it puts the outer dual sticking out about 7'' . Don't want to go to the trouble of putting an additional 'fender' on. Would like to use the flares made by bushwacker

I knew of one done like that. The outer wheel only stuck out couple of inches, But the info or even pics I don't have.

And I don't know who this one belongs to, but it is one of my favorites.

If I remember correctly the one I am thinking of was either a dark blue or black truck and the pic was taken showing the truck from the drivers side front>


What I am considering doing (since I have most of the parts) is to take my 68 3/4 ton GMC and putting the dually front end under it and converting the rear. But I don't want to loose the space between the wheel wells. Don't want to get into a bunch of body work either...............work truck

LOL...........you were posting that while I was typing.. That is the truck!!! Iwas afraid that is what he had done with the wheel tubs. I need the 4' between on the inside. Gonna hafta do some figur'n

So the difference I see with your truck is the fact it is a longhorn which has a 40 1/4'' spring center and a frame that does not dimple out at the rear. My truck , of course flares out and has a leaf spring center of 42 1/2.

If you use a p30 14 bolt dually rear tires will be like the dark blue truck

This truck came as a 1968 C-30 flat bed. That is the stock rear axle in it. When I was looking to buy one I searched for that particular wheel base and axle width so I could just drop a bed on it. You wont be able to have both 4' between the tubs and the wheels tucked under. You will have to choose what is more important. Adding extended fenders outside or not being able to haul plywood flat in the bed.

Why do newer trucks even have wheel wells in the bed? I've seen these trucks from the side, and the bloody things are lifted so high (from the factory) that the rear wheels barely even go up into the wheel well. There is no reason for them to not have a full width flat bed.
Look at a 2010 Dodge Dually 3500 from the side, and you'll see what I mean.

When they're not loaded, they stick way up in the air, but get some weight in the bed (albeit a LOT of weight!), they will squat down to where you need the wheel wells.

Now, on that same note, one of the Big 3 a few years ago, debuted a kind of "Farm" package where the truck had NO inner fender wells, and basically the outside wheel only off of a dually. So you had a full 6' wide bed inside with dually fender wells on the outside, but only single wheels.

The ad for it showed some farmer loading it to the moon with hay, comparing it to how a regular bed would be loaded. I saw it at the LA Auto Show, but it never made it into production.
