Exclamation Need HELP with an engine casting #

Looking at a 68 thats for sale. Buyer claims it has a 350 engine in it, but he is only going by what the PO which he bought it from told him. So I asked him for the casting # so I could verify. He says the casting # on the sbc is 381676. I tried Mortec and a general web search but found no hits on this number.

Can anyone help out identifying this block? The truck is two hours away from me so getting there to see it again is difficult.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Scott

Re: Need HELP with an engine casting #

there should be 7 digits in the casting number. As you may know it is located on the rear of the engine block on the drivers side of the block. There is also a raised date code on the passenger side rear of the block. I would ask him to recheck the casting number, and see if he can see the date code on the block as well. there is no way to monkey around with either of these bits of information. The stamping on the front right of the engine block can be restamped. I have a customer with a " numbers matching " corvette, that was adamant that it was correct. We pulled the motor, and you could see where someone had hand filed the original numbers off and restamped the block. A 25k oh Sh&*
