frame questions??
Removed the bed from my truck this weekend and was not happy to find what I found!!!!! My question is has anyone ever sectioned in frame parts due to rust?? My problem is found just in the area where the front spring perch is for the rear leaf spring, the rest of the frame is in SOLID shape I would like to just replace that part of the frame if possible. Does any one know what type of steel is a frame made out of, my old man says they are made from spring steel, is that correct?? Does anyone have or know of a parts frame or has a frame for there donor vehicle they would be willing to cut up?? I'm in a real jamb now an not real sure where to go from here, suggestions??? Dont forget I live in the Northeast an finding a non-rusted frame is not easily achievable!!! I can post pics if need be. THANKS

Re: frame questions??
hell thats nothing, at least the pics dont make it look like much, i wouldn't worry about it. I've seen ALOT worse on trucks that haul big loads and never have an issue

Re: frame questions??
I had pictured ALOT worse. Like, 'holes in it kind of bad.' Like said above, clean it, seal it off, and paint it. Thats not too bad looking at all.

Re: frame questions??
Yeah that frame looks kinda bad, I would replace it if you could get a new frame. FYI, frames are made out of mild steel, if they were made of spring steel you would have a hell of a time cutting them with a saw blade, like you might do to do a frame "Z", monster notch or C-notch.

Re: frame questions??
Have you thought about bolting/ welding a reinforceing plate on the rust effected areas?

Re: frame questions??
if youre that worried about it, just weld on some extra plate steel to the area

Re: frame questions??
I would bolt in a new plate inside the existing frame and space some 1" welds around the plate. I think this would be a better fix for this areaof the frame.
