Frame Identification ?!?

I have yet to come across something on our truck that hasn't surprised me. So today, as my brother and I were changing the tranny filter and fluid out, I noticed a date stamped on the driver's side under the door of the frame. Says 10-6-86. Is that the date of manf. for the frame? I know our cab is 67, the bed is fleetside from 68 or later due to side marker lights and the motor is from a 77 (sb350) and the tranny stamp appears to identify as an 88. What a mess. Luckily, it all is working fine and seems to be running good. Bought around a year ago and still getting little "presents" all the time. Any info on the frame? There is also a 5-6 digit number code above the date on the frame.

Re: Frame Identification ?!?

i have seen 2 locations on the drivers side between the cab mounts and on the drivers side just behind the steering box. (on top of the frame rail) i have never seen a date stamped like you mentioned, its always been first number is year and the rest should be last digits of the vin. guys if im wrong please correct me.

Re: Frame Identification ?!?

If you look good, those #'s or a similar # are on all frames. I think it is the part # for the frame. The 10--6--?? is not a date code or my frame would be from 1918.

Re: Frame Identification ?!?

This is where they are, on the drivers side. There are others on the pass side. I've never seen 2 the same.

However, if you look close you can see that "420" is part of the number, and it shows up again in other places:

Just sayin'
