Trying to determine what was on my truck

Hello folks! I am trying to determine what type of decals, etc would be on my truck. Things like "C20/Custom", or something that indicates that this had a camper shell on it.

I am trying to put together a shopping list for emblems. My truck currently has no identifying features except for the "8 350" on the front fenders.

I have attached the SPID. Perhaps you experts could help me out.

BTW what does the "Side Molding wide lower" look like?

Thank you for your time!

Trying to analyze SPID

Okay so let me bounce this off you guys. Would my truck be a "Custom Camper" edition?

i am still trying to figure out what the molding looks like according to the SPID. Maybe someone can post a picture or send me a link to one so I can visualize the molding that it is referring to.

Thank you!

I can't speak for the others... but I can only read a few words on that SPID... if you get a better photo, I for one would be more than happy to look it over.

Re: Trying to determine what was on my truck

I was afraid of that, When I attached the pic the board shrunk it down.

SPID

If you click on that it will open the picture full size.

Thank you very much for your time, I really would like to take advanytage of knowing what emblems I need to have before I get too far on the project. I really need to be planning ahead of time.

Re: Trying to determine what was on my truck

It certainly shows some camper related equipment on the SPID although I'm not sure you have a true "Camper special" I'm sure Longhorn man will help you out. BTW, your truck was built in Fremont California in case you were interested.

Re: Trying to determine what was on my truck

Well, you have a 1971 C/20 Custom Camper.
inteesting it is labeled Special Camper on the spid... must have been a former ford worker or something.
The Z81 denotes the option package, and everything else is listed on the SPID.

You'll have to squint, but look at the second Z81 listing there, it says With optional rear leaf suspention, requires front stabilizer, HD front shock absorbers, and HD rear springs.
Interesting, it does not require the HD rear shocks, or optional tires like the first listing for the Z81 package with coils.
Directly under that, you'll see what the Z62 package includes.
Aas for badging... I am 99% sure the 71 custom camper would have the script on the doors directly over the door handles. I know in 69 it was a fender emblim that would replace the C/20, Custom/20 or even CST/20 badges... but I am pretty sure by 71 they stopped that. (I think that was a 69 only badge)
The lower moulding is the 2 inch tall (or so) lower stainless trim with the black center paint.

Re: Trying to determine what was on my truck

Thank you very much Longhorn Man! I really appreciate that you have taken the time to help me with your wisdom.

Me being a noob in this area (67-72 Chevy Trucks) I feel thankful that you have taken the time to help someone like myself out. Honestly without this forum, and people like you I would never have figured out a page in the history of my truck.

BTW that image you attached on your last post... where did you get that from? Is that from a book or something? The there a thread with a link I can get that source from? I am trying to learn and perhaps if I can get my hands on that book I can do some more research on my own. For future projects (I think I am hooked *evil grinz*)

Re: Trying to determine what was on my truck

no thanks needed... I came here hardly knowing a thing about these rigs.
That did in fact come from a book, it used to be a free one, but now GM wants 50 bucks a pop.
Its called the restoration packet. I wouldn't pay 50 bucks for it myself... not even 25 bucks... but, if you want a partially complete stack of photocopys from the original GM dealers books, then have your VIN and credit card ready and call 1 800 222 1020
Back when they were free, I made up VIN to represent each year of the 67 - 72 trucks and called them at one time or another. The one worth the most IMO is 69, it is more complete than any other year, and most of the details do cover the span of the trucks.

Re: Trying to determine what was on my truck

Thank you Longhorn Man! So just to see if I get you correctly I would have to purchase the "Custom/20" emblems and the "Custom Camper" emblem to put right above the door handles.

I am uncovering the moulding holes on the bed, someone filled em in with bondo. I guess if the truck had the emblem right above the door handles, I will find holes on the door in that general area as well.

What do you all think?

Re: Trying to determine what was on my truck

The trim/molding is pretty expensive. A lot of folks went with the no trim route to save money in repairs.

A truck with lower trim only would look something like my 69 parts truck.

Re: Trying to determine what was on my truck

Ohhh OK! yeah I have looked online and seen molding at some sites for a couple hundred dollars + that sux. And that explains why I am only seeing holes on the lower section of the truck as I am uncovering bondo that fills the holes.
