Question What exactly do I need for 67 hood to fit?

I know it has been asked about a zillion times before, but I did a search and came up with nothing.

What do I need to make a 67 hood fit? My truck is a 67 GMC, but for some reason (I'm assuming accident?) the previous owner has swapped to a newer hood (69-72). Now it looks like I have one 68 front fender and one 69, which is really annoying, but I don't even know if fenders effect the hood. To me it looks like the only thing really blocking the 67 hood from closing is the top of the grill, the little chrome piece, but I almost know that's not all it will be...anyway, instead of all my useless blabbing, why don't I let some of you experts help me out

Thanks

What year grill do you have? The top bar on a 67/68 is about 3/4 inch high and painted, the 69-72 is much taller and chrome.

Assuming a 67 grill and fenders are GMC, regardless of year, you should only need a hood and a latch mechanism.

If the hood is a later year, then perhaps grill is too? Maybe your hood does not latch because it's still the 67/68 latch? I'm not even sure if there is a difference in latches but I think there is.

After re-reading, your description sound more like you have a 67/68 hood and a 69-up grille?

Got any pics

Ok, since you are building 67 you will want 2 67 fenders, a 67-68 radiator support, and the hood of course! I belive I listed everything. If I missed anything then someone else please point it out!

So, as far as I know, all I really need is a rad support now. So excuse my noob-ism, but is the rad support just the top piece that goes above the rad with the hood latch? I feel really dumb asking that

I think we need to clarify you're dealing with a GMC not a Chevy, right? The radiator support is virtually the same for all years GMC. 67/68 vs 69-72 chevy supports are different.

Take some pics, it may clear up some of this.

FYI, the rad support or core support is what sits behind the grill and your radiator sit on. Yes the latch is bolted to it.

Ok I'm sorry, should have paid more attention. It is a 67 gmc. Gmc grill etc...when I put the 67 hood on, from what I remember, it hits the extra little top chrome piece on the current grill, I think that might be all that is in the way, but at the time we did not even think to remove it. Could it be that this is all that is in the way then?

I might have to wait until tonight when I get some pics, but what do you think? Thanks for clearing up my question about rad support btw

Methinks when the previous owner instlled 69-up hood, they also replaced to bar. That would explain everything. You need to revert back to the shorter top bar.
