Door Seals
Hey is there any tips or tricks to keeping door seals on properly?? I would like to do it right the first time!!

I just did mine. Other than using adhisive (and making sure not to make a mess) there is not much to it.
I would recommend not cutting them to length until you are sure that they are properly installed and seated. Once you have them in place, shut the door and let the glue set. You will need to slam the doors for the first couple of weeks until the rubber takes the new shape. I was pleased with the results. New seals keep the elements out and reduced the road noise considerably. good luck

I found personaly that the glue on type weatherstrip is not as good as the clip on style...and there's a lot less mess with the clip on.

I heard that buying the preformed weatherstrip is a mistake. It's cheaper and better to buy it in a roll and cut to fit when it's installed. If you are going to glue it to the doorframe use 3M Automotive Weatherstripping Adhesive. It's the best stuff IMHO.

I bought mine from A&M Soffseal - they have been around for many moons and make a great product.
I used 3M (they make several grades make sure you buy the professional grade it does make a big difference) adhesive. I had my son hold a portion of it while I ran the adhesive in the split - laid it into place and held it in position with chip clips (the big spring clips to hold your tater chip bags closed) while it set up - about 20 minutes - I did each door in 3 sections - Soffseal leaves extra material on the end so it is trim to fit at the end. I started in the formed corner and worked clockwise.

Take your time and do not rush the process. My son and I worked as a team, one holding the w/s while the other brushed on the adhesive. We followed the instructions on the glue, for a change, and applied two coats. We also used several spring clamps. This worked well. The only issue as stated above is that you really have to slam the doors for awhile.

I used the press on door seals from GMC Paul's. Took a while to break in, but very easy install.

The Product we use to glue on seals is from Motorcraft. We sell 3m products and they do make good products. However if you want to glue them on quick without a lot of clamps, use Motorcraft. It the same stuff the factory uses. Sticks fast Nothing wrong with 3m its really a great company to work for and they make good products.
Most of the time the press on does not need any adhesive but we put it on in small areas to make sure. BTW we sell rubber mouldings wholesale in any length up to 100ft Last edited by mbgmike; 09-26-2009 at 10:58 AM. |

Late last night I used 3M (pro grade), this morning is looks good. I used masking tape to hold into place. So far so good.
