Rocker Panel Replacement

So a thought crossed my mind today. I'm going to replace my rocker panels, but my cab is off the frame. Is this something that can be done, or should I set the cab back on the frame with the fenders bolted up so that I can ensure that the rockers line up with the fenders?

TIA
Mike

crap this is easy. No this is not hard to do. Rocker panels are not hard to do on any car or truck. We can show you how. It does not matter if off the frame or not

Ok Hey to take a rocker panel off is not hard. Just grind the spot welds off.
don't need no stinkin spot weld cutter.
If the inner panel is ok then you don't need to brace it up. Hell call me we do this all the time. I am dirty today from doing it in fact I have not cleaned up

Re: Rocker Panel Replacement

Well, I do have a lot of floor repair to do as well. I was thinking of starting with the floor extention piece then going from there:

Re: Rocker Panel Replacement

Yeah by looks of your pics you can use the new panel that TriPlus came out with. It will extend about 3.1/2" into the floor from th outer edge of the inner rocker panel. You will have to add some floor material but that is not too hard.
The outer floor section is a great part for aftermarket. It fits great

Re: Rocker Panel Replacement

So, do I really need to brace the cab before I cut out the floor for this 4" outer floor piece?

Re: Rocker Panel Replacement

I ended up buying these pieces from GMC Pauls (spent a little more, but they had them in stock). I intend on buying the rest of my cab pieces from Mike's Bump & Grind Garage as Mike has been a tremendous help on this project. I'm all about supporting the wonderful vendors that support this board

Of course. we have installed them on a number of cabs. We just have the left side backordered is all. As none of our suppliers have any left. Right now I have to get the lefts from other vendors to satisfy our customers. I'm losing money on them now I hope they come in soon.

Re: Rocker Panel Replacement

Okay, so I'm dry-fitting these outer floor peices, and have found them to be too long. Have other people had this issue, and how best to resolve it?

Re: Rocker Panel Replacement

Hmm...I'm just wondering why mine are sooo much longer then. Maybe 40 years of washing and sitting out in the rain has shrunk my cab

I cut mine in half when I did it. I've heard people say they're too long sometimes and I feel I'm not good enough to fit a piece that big so I fit the front, got it tacked in, and then fit the rear half.

Re: Rocker Panel Replacement

That looks like a pretty good solution. How much did you have to cut out of there.

Re: Rocker Panel Replacement

I sent some dims with a PM for you to check your cab. I guess we have been lucky and we have installed at least four sets of these without having to cut them at all. Not a hard fix but I would shape the ends before having to cut but whatever works is good. We cut full size truck bedsides into three pieces to ship to Germany. Those guys don't mind welding
