How about some pics of long bed 47'-55's
We've all seen pics of short beds, how about some long beds. Slammed in the weeds, stock, or anywhere in between...
here's one to start... Last edited by MrTucker; 11-05-2009 at 11:16 AM. |

Re: How about some pics of long bed 47'-55's
Here's my in progress 49. It started out in life as a 1/2 ton, worked hard enough to enjoy a 14 year retirement in an old navy store. Now it's making a comeback as a 3/4 ton, NAPCO looking truck, sitting on a 2000 ZR2 frame and drive trane.

49ZR2, You have a nice looking truck. You should have a build thread. I remember you asked some questions about the ZR chassis and that was the last I heard from you.

Re: How about some pics of long bed 47'-55's
Thanks guys.
Nick the reason you haven't heard anything from me is I've been searching the web trying to find someone who has but an AD truck on a ZR2 and haven't been able to find anyone that has. Everything I've read says to stay away from the 4x4s for one reason or another. But my tape measure kept telling me something different. This is my first build so I've kept my mouth shut knowing that somewhere along the way I'm going to find out why so many recommend against the choice I made. I've done a lot of lurking on this site and others and could never have gotten this far without what I've learned from everyone that participates on these sites. I'm able to drive the truck but the lighting and dash have to be figured out yet. My goal from the start was to have an old truck with a modern drive train. If anyone is interested maybe I'll try and put up a build thread this winter. |

Re: How about some pics of long bed 47'-55's
As far as I know, the ZR2 frame is the same as the regular 4wd S10 frame, the main difference being that all the suspension mounting points are "lowered" to give it the built in suspension lift. It also has wider axles, though after having swapped in a 60" wide 4wd rear axle into my 49 and still needing 1" wheel spacers to get the tires to clear the bedsides, I think the ZR2's 63" wide rear axle would be perfect.
Good job on the build, did you cut any off the front of the bed or are your rear wheels not centered in the openings? Mine is also on an extended cab frame, and I cut 2.375" from the front of the (long) bed and it fits perfect.

Re: How about some pics of long bed 47'-55's
Here's mine when I bought it. I had a short bed already so that's what I'm using, but plan on doing another project and using the long bed and shortening it.

Re: How about some pics of long bed 47'-55's
Here's mine as purchased, 3800 1 ton with a 9 foot bed:
And now, on a 95 s10 extended cab frame. I took a 3/4 ton bed and cut 2.375" from the front of it. It has a steel bed floor that's a combination of 2 s10 floors spliced together.

This truck had the same rear bumper on it too, when I bought it. It came out of Centerville, IA.

Boy, from the side that long bed sure makes the nose of the truck look stubby.
