axle/carrier question
Can I use a car carrier in my '76 1/2 ton 2wd truck axle? EDB30140... I have an EDB32212 in it now.

Re: axle/carrier question
IIRC car and truck carriers are different animals. I'd assume that the housing is machine differently, but I don't have a clue on that.
Edit: assuming the housing is the same you would have to use the car gears. What is it you are trying to accomplish? Someone may know a better way.

Re: axle/carrier question
Trying to get rid of the 4 series carrier/4.10 gears so I can run a 3 series/3.40 gears. But would prefer the GM car carrier vs the truck carrier due to the truck version being susceptible to stress cracks in the corners of it's "windows". Truck version has a window on each side whereas the car version only has one period.

Re: axle/carrier question
I think your concerned over nothing. I have been around these trucks a long time and never heard of cracked carriers being an issue.
