Tailgate weight
Anyone here have an idea of the weight of a 67-72 fleetside tailgate? I may be shipping mine out to a potential buyer, and Im looking to get a shipping estimate. The tailgate is out behind the garage, and I dont really have a way of weighing it.
Thanks

Re: Tailgate weight
My aftermarket tailgate box says the shipping weight is 24 kg, or about 53 pounds.

Re: Tailgate weight
ok, an original tailgate would be about the same then right? Maybe just a little heavier or no?

Re: Tailgate weight
you got a bathroom scale?
You'll need more than just the weight of the gate though, if you pack it up properly, you'll be adding another 10 - 20 pounds to it. |

Re: Tailgate weight
When I switched to an aftermarket one I weighed it and the original on my bathroom scale and the original was 10lbs heavier if I remember correctly.

Re: Tailgate weight
depends how much mouse sh*t is inside of it, mice love tailgates. seriously though, I'll try to weigh my GM gate tomorrow, it should definitely be heavier than an aftermarket one.

Re: Tailgate weight
well I've learned something today; not all GM tailgates are created equal. I weighed my 5 NOS tailgates today, 3 of them weighed right around 51 lbs and 2 of them weighed right around 60 lbs. It seems as though GM switched the gauge of metal used at some point. I am sure they are all GM as they still have the GM part# labels on them. These are bare gates, this does not include the weight of the latch and handle.
sorry, looks like you may have to actually weigh yours. LUCKTRUCK |
