Re: The 70 is goin to the shop
Well alright,Travis. It seems like just yesterday you were in a pickle about how you could fix that special truck up.Here we are at the end of`09 and you`re in the army and gittin`er done.
I`m no help with programs or photoshop, but look in the "67/72 Trucks for Sale" section. There`s a beautiful gold gMC in there.Go look!I love the way that looks.

Re: The 70 is goin to the shop
Travis, I think you'd like the street route. bone stock original trucks are hard to maintain and OEM or NOS parts are more expensive than high quality aftermarket.
I think you'd like something that would push you back in the seat, correct? post a good side shot of your truck in the photoshop section. I'm sure someone would be happy to modify your truck to your liking!

Re: The 70 is goin to the shop
I agree with tcb-1.Also,stock is boring for most young folk.I love all original but lack the reserve to go that route.I still haven`t outgrown at least a touch of hot rod in everything I drive.Keep the overall theme original with some nice touches. for looks and/or driveability.

Re: The 70 is goin to the shop
Travis,
If I were in your shoes (and I'm not) I would want to concentrate on my new "job" for a while and let the truck rest. It's not going anywhere and will be there when you get back. Last edited by Shane; 12-05-2009 at 10:39 PM. |

Re: The 70 is goin to the shop
5.3 or 6.0 swap, 4L60 trans, 4/6 inch drop, disc brakes on all four corners, and some nice looking shoes.
This will keep the truck clean and simple, yet it is drastic enough that you could proudly roll into any hang out.

Re: The 70 is goin to the shop
My advice is to do it in stages. A lot of projects, especially with first time builders, die once they are totally apart.
Tackle the body work first. Then if you quit, you really have something to sell. Then tackle the suspension/brakes and then the drivetrain. The body is usually the hardest because most people can't do it, I know I can't. If you can't get that expensive part out of the way first you will be WAY ahead of most first timers.

Re: The 70 is goin to the shop
hi travis ....go with what you like ...lowered stock or anything in between ...if i had the cash id go with a late model fuel injected motor and bags .....but like special k said start with body work first ! it is the hardest and if you get thru that part its a open book as to how everything else is done !

Re: The 70 is goin to the shop
I saw a nice GMC on here the other day that was the blue your`s was originally.Just restore what you have.Start with the body.Don`t even think about the motor yet.Spend your money on the body to make sure it goes back together.

Re: The 70 is goin to the shop
for me.....that factory fresh look with little bolt in mods. my 72 burb 3/4 ton has / is getting poly chassis bushings, big sway bar, class IV/V hitch, etc. most of the mods are factory related.....tach, vac gage, cab lights from my dad's 72 burb. i also plan to install a custom fit factory looking stereo with input jack for mp3 player (use a hidden antenna as my truck doesn't have an antenna). i want to have a beautiful daily driver that harkens back to the old days with that good old truck feel. the mods are just enough to make it user friendly without taking away from that vintage feel. i don't want to invest big bucks in air springs or drop kits or some other show style fad because that would detract from what it is supposed to be.....a good ol heavy duty chevy truck that will turn heads while hauling stuff and towing trailers just as well as any modern truck.
