sandblasting

I'm going to be sandblasting my frame soon and want your opinions on what I should use. I've done this befor and used white silicone sand. Since then I've found out that probably wasn't a good idea since you can get silicosis. This would be the reason I had some issue breathing afterward should have used a better respirator lesson lert.

I used Black Beauty Media on my sheet metal. Works real good.....

Use the Black Beauty on the frame, it is a little more aggressive than the sand and works well. Thats what I used on mine.

I've been known to paint large vehicles in a small non ventilated garage, I'll sand paint and filler with no mask at all... I've even cleaned public toilets with no rubber gloves (way back in the day)...
However, when blasting with ANY media, ALWAYS wear some sort of mask.

that silica sand it BAD stuff, stick with the commercially available medias. Most any will do OK, black beauty is one that will do better than others.

Oh, and I agree that you should wear a respirator.

Wear a good respirator (not just a dust mask) no matter what media you use. I'm not as up on the different medias as some of the other guys but Silica sand makes for a lot of dust floating in the air anytime you use it.

If there is some one close by that dose it I would have it done. I weighed the options and it was cheaper to have it done over doing it my self. I just had mine blasted Friday.

I have done a lot of my own blasting. The problem with using "black beauty" and other media agents is the incrediable cost involved. I have "broke the law" and used a premium play sand available from Lowes. It is screened to one size and works well and only 3.50 a bag. It is important to note, however, I wrap up like a mummy with full eye, ear and lung protection. Don't skimp on a cheap respirator !

got this one about 25years ago have saved and made in the tens of thousands of dollars with it if i had to pay someone to blast my stuff

WHERE COULD I FIND MYSELF ONE???

IVE HEARD THAT YOU CAN BUY THE SAND BLASTING GUN AND JUST HOOK IT UP TO A REGULAR AIR COMPRESSOR TRUE OR FALSE??? AND IF SO IM SURE ITS NOT THAT SIMPLE WHAT ELSE WOULD BE NEEDED??? A ADDED REGULATOR N ETC???

If you got a local tractor supply or something of the sort you can usually pick up a 20 gallon one similar to the one above for baout $125. Personally we got a guy in town who will blast an entire frame perfectly for $100. You got to remember sand is anywhere from $4 to $8 a bag any more and then tips for those sandblaster are about $15 for four. I've found its about one tip for every two bags. So add it all up and its cheaper to take it somewhere.

Your as lucky as I am I got a local place that did my frame for $90. I figured I would have that in sand. They also did it while I waited. In one hour it was done. But I could see that some guy's would like to do it there self or do more than one frame then it might pay off.

I tried doing some things myself, like some of the small stuff and i gave up on it when i had got about $100 worth of supplies in a set of rims that i tried to sandblast at home and they still aren"t done.

Id rather do it myself...

Because i dont know of ne one around here who would do it
or of ne one who even has a blaster and if they did i would know
of top it would be cheaper to do it myself...
