Turn a 4x4 1/2 ton into a 1 ton?
I have a '72 gmc lwb 4x4
It needs a frame off resto. I want to make a reliable toy hauler with a flat bed. Since I need to replace most of the suspension components, will 1 ton suspension work on my chassis (even if I box my frame?). Has it been done? |

The frame is still a weak-link though. The one-ton frame is taller and made from heavier gauge metal. You will gain stronger axles and much stiffer springs, but does that really satisfy your needs? Maybe some kind of air-adjustable rear suspension would serve you as well....and ride much better unloaded?

Unfortunately I can't use bags where I live. (Coldest place on the planet 2 days in a row this Month)
I'd like to do an upgrade that can increase my payload and towing, but still be a daily driver. How about 3/4 ton suspension on a 1/2 ton 4x4? |
