Question testing horn relay?

Can I test a horn relay 1972 chevy to see if it is bad? I hotwired the horns and they work and the horn button worked before so the only thing left is the relay. But I wanted to test before I bought one.

Re: testing horn relay?

I don't know the exact pin configuration, but it should be easy enough. It normally has 12v on it, and the horn button sends ground to activate the relay. If it operates (you can hear it click), either check for continuity across the output pins with a VOM, or apply 12v on one pin and check for 12v on the other.

There's a chance the 12v to operate the relay is the same 12v that is sent to the horn.... in other words, there may be a single 12v connection. If that's the case, just ground the input and check for 12v on the output pin.
