Easy there killer......I'm in Ohio too.

If you want snow, go to one of those mountain states where the economy depends upon it

Re: Easy come, easy go

I love snow, too. It takes more than snow to scare me away.It seems there`s a drawback about anywhere and you just choose your poison.People who get winter weather can count on it every year, that`s a given. You can live in Florida or a gulf state and stay warm in winter, stay in a/c all summer, and pray all fall the next hurricane doesn`t get you.You can be warm in California all winter and be comfortable in the summer.Just hope a major earthquake, mudslide,or wildfire doesn`t destroy your town. The odds aren`t as bad as some think.Yet,it does happen to someone and you never know. But,you`ll never here any off us in winterland rub it in when your home or whole town is destroyed...Think about it.
I work outside all year `round and have been all my working years. So going out to the car or from the car to the store doesn`t bother me.I can snowboard all day long and have a ball, too. We have ice skating parties and hang outside 1/2 the night. They make clothes or that.I haven`t found any clothes to cool me off when it`s hotter`n a brandin`iron out, though.Just when we`re sick of being hot we are blessed with wonderful fall weather.Just when we`re tired of the cold we are graced with springtime.I could never acclimate myself to hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires,or mudslides.
I could live any of these places and be content. But it isn`t so awful being able to have 4 seasons. You know what they say about variety. The only thing that bugs me about winter is all the wimps staying in,so there`s not much going on event wise.I`m jealous to hear about swap meets in February and it would be cool to ride the Harley all year.I`ve been wanting to build a Sportster powered snowmobile to solve that problem.I just wish they didn`t spread salt and chemicals that try to eat up the second largest investment of your life.I`d risk all those disasters to be able to only own a`72 or earlier vehicle. If I lived in CA I`d go nuts if I couldn`t go hang in the Sierras and be in snow at least a few times a year. It`s all about what you`re used to.
I only say all this because I believe CPNE`s point of this thread was not to complain about having snow.I was thinking he enjoyed plowing it in his old GMC.I`m thinking he`s feeling somewhat gifted to live up in NH where so many problems in the world seem so far away and people aren`t stepping on each other`s toes. And,probably happy so many are scared off by cold weather.Paradise is nice. But,once the secret`s out it becomes overcrowded, highly competitive, and expensive. Not exactly paradise anymore.

Tim, dead on. Just glad to have a truck GM (and later my sons and I) built for a purpose still ready to roll when duty calls. Just wanted to share.

Very true, especially that last part. But I guess I don't mean to "rub it in" so much as to show the contrast in weather we have here in the U.S., especially during the winter. I lived in the mountains in Utah for 7 years, skied my butt off, but it started getting to the point where when late October would roll around, I would begin dreading the start of winter and the cold. I love the snow and skiing, but I love to leave it too. It's just where you're comfortable. I'm a native Californian, like a lot of guys here, and will probably die here, with all the headaches and hassles the state manages to pile on us every year. But I appreciate you guys, and seeing the view you have from your house, especially in the summer, I kinda wish I was living back there at times. The open roads, the trees, actual water in rivers, these are things we don't have here any more. I guess we all have to count our blessings.

We are lucky to get snow once a year here. School/Colleges shut down for snow. It snowed 5" last year and we didn't have classes for 3 days, lol.

Re: Easy come, easy go

Dan,I can appreciate that.I know I said a lot.I just felt compelled to comment after what seemed like a flood of posts about how great CA/AZ weather is.One post is ok,but they kept coming. If nothing else it became a hijack.I`m not upset.
I`ve lived in CA and liked it.I was up north. Before I married I was torn between the mountains/hills and the beach.Probably the farthest south I`d want to live is Santa Cruz.

It`s been snowing since new years eve day up in the NW tip of MD where my mom lives. And,windy!!! Down here,too.13 in TN is a cold one. We`ve already had more snow in December than the last 4 or more years combined.

Re: Easy come, easy go

14 here this morning.
The problem in this area with having extended sub-freezing weather is nobody is really set up for it
Most houses are minimally insulated, have exposed pipes under neath.
Most have inefficent heat pumps and no secondary heat source.
Sadly, our area will probably on the news from deaths due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
This comes from desperation and using propane, kerosene and even diesel heaters in the house without proper ventilation.
Plumbers and HVAC guys are lovin' it.
But I see a real problem coming next month with double electric bills.
