Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
I thought I would post my latest update from my "original design" wheel thread.
Got my new zinc plated 1" wide rotors from SSBC. Like I have been saying,... these 1" rotors are the answer to all the Boss 338 wheel fitment problems. (Until the new design comes out) Here's how much MORE the hub is recessed into the wheel which allows the cap to fit with no mods. No machine work, no glued on cap. The only thing I didn't try was a bearing dust cap. But I think this is the only answer to use the old design wheel without any machine work. The last two pics are of the cap installed and the wheel setting on the stock unmodified rotor. So,... if you need: 1) drop spindles 2) new rotors 3) new calipers Just buy the 1" wide stuff and you are good to go. Drop spindles for 1" rotors are only sold in 73-87 (balljoint) versions. So you 63-72 guys will need to change ball joints and tie rod ends. (all of the above parts,... I needed to purchase anyway) Last edited by lolife99; 01-08-2010 at 12:08 AM. |

Keith, what are those going on, 69? They sure are nice looking.
I'll get a set when the new design comes out. There you go Boss, one more person interested in fitting 11/4 rotors. |

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
Hey guys, I am new to this website. I read this entire post before I ordered my Boss 338's and decided to go ahead and give it a shot. I ordered the 18x8's for the front and 18x9.5's for the rear. Anyways, I put them on this morning and had very little fitment issues. I don't know if I have the light duty rotors or not but the only modifications I had to do was hammer in the dust caps and cut off about an 1/8th of an inch from the center cap clips on the front wheels. It was simple and I am very pleased with the results. I still need to do a drop on my truck so that the front doesn't look so odd but that will be coming soon. Here are a few pictures with the new wheels installed. FYI, I don't know if anyone else has talked to Steve at Mrwheeldeal.com but that is where I got my wheels and tires. He had great correspondence and great pricing as well.

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
got just got a set myself, cant believe how affordable and beautiful these are. i will deal with making them fit. Anyone looking for 2 black 20x10s, 6.25 BS. Brand new in box. never installed. asking $400 just want my money back.. I bought a staggered set and the company screwed me, Wheels next.. stay away from them.. sent me 4 20x10.. and will not respond. had to go buy 20x8.5 from someone else..

Ronm909... if we can, please keep the items for sale in the parts board if at all possible. And according to the rules, sales through pm's aren't allowed.
And I'm sorry to hear they wouldn't respond to you concerning the shipment of the wrong wheels; that's crazy!!! Nice looking setup on the frame though. Out of cusiousity, what are the specs on the tires?

It'd be nice to know which company this was so others could avoid them.

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
OK sorry about that. Company is Wheels next. first they took my money and sat on it for a month while wheels were on back order, but it was a different rim, finaly I was able to get these 338s at a "discount", but he sent me all 10"s.. as for the tires... I dont know if these tires will work but I got 3 used 315/35 20 with about 50% tread for $100 on craigslist. figured I try them out, if not at least to have a rolling chassis for now.

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
I'm running the 18" boss wheels on 72 style rotors. All I had to do was chamfer the edge of the rotor about a 1/4" and run a 3/16" spacer with longer studs. No mods to dust cap or center cap. A friend of mine is running the same setup with Chrome boss wheels and has no rubbing or any other issues.

over 500 posts making a bid deal about fitting issues, thats exactly what I did, spacer and and grinder. no machining. it soooo worth the price.

(on my 20x8.5's) No grinding or machining either. Just 1" wide rotors. That's the kicker. No news on the new design yet either. |

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
I think most of us would rather not run spacers, the front wheels seem to stick out enough in stock form.
I'm guessing you probably have the light duty rotors (one inch thick)? I do love the wheels though.

nope not running 1" rotor, I got a dropmember ( narrows width) so I can loose a little of that backspace with a spacer..
