Calling all SPORT fans
Hey guys, I am interested in finding out as much information on the SPORT edition of the square bodies as I can. So lets see some pics, some information and stories of your own. I have owned mine for 15 years and in that time I have only seen 2 other Sports. I am in the middle of a frame off restoration right now. show us what you have got. here are a few pics of mine about 1 year after I bought it, different rims, I will put the rallies back on and a few primer spots. got it with a straight 6, blew a head gasket and dropped a 350 in soon to be changed with a 383.

Lots of fans here, but not so many owners. I really like that color combo. Wanna sell it...

I have a 76,79 and 80 Sports ...also a few street coupes. The information I have is they made about 1500 each year;many were wrecked and painted over but I still turn up a couple of new ones each year.

Re: Calling all SPORT fans
Yours looks like it is all still there. I have an 81 that was painted over a few times and someone stripped the logos off. Luckily with the help of the board I am getting alot of the info I needed to finish mine. I got this from 80Sport who is really helping get me the info on my truck. Here is my build thread also.

Re: Calling all SPORT fans
I kick myself everytime one of these posts comes up . I was in contact with an owner in California a couple years back about an Orange Sport like the one pictured above . It also had a tach, buckets ,and a bigblock . I think it wa all original but I couldnt muster up the extra cash at the time . I wish I had that one .
There is also one rotting away near by but it is pretty far gone . Frank

Re: Calling all SPORT fans
How about a dually? I've seen a Sport package paint on a dually. The dually is abandoned up in the Texas Panhandle. I have a picture of it somewhere, I'll look for it.

Re: Calling all SPORT fans
My old 77 was a sport. It came with a rollbar (lightbar) and lights. the switch for the lights was where normally the dual-tank switch goes. It looked identical to a dual-tank switch except it said "Aux Lights" on it.

you said they made about 1500 sports each year, do you have any documentation on that? and your red truck is an 80? I thought they had square headlights that year. and where did you get your sport license plate? I still have my sport hood badge and plan to reuse it, it is not that bad. I saw years ago someone like LMC offered them, but have not been able to find a new one yet. I think I would use mine anyways, a little better with original stuff Chris |

Re: Calling all SPORT fans
The estimate for numbers built I derived from the information I rcvd from George Zapora at GM Canada;as muscle car collectors know GM Canada documented all units sold in Canada...about 150 Sports were sold in Canada in 1980;Canada usually takes about 10% of production.
These numbers are typical for specialty trucks...I have a 1998 S10 SS and production numbers were 1364 on those. My red/carmine truck is an 80 and has the correct square lights;the red /black truck is a 79;the colors and lights are correct for the year. The Sport plate was made by the graphics shop that did the striping;he used the hood ornament lettering as a pattern. The Chevy Sport hood ornaments turn up on E bay a couple of times a year.....you will of course be bidding against me and the 2 other guys who collect these trucks...and the guy(or girl) from Sweden who seems to bid on every unusual hood ornament. Re: Calling all SPORT fans
I have a couple books at home i can look at. I don't remember the name at the moment, but I remember the guy lives in Iola, WI. It has picks of the orange and white one and the rodeo ad as well as a handfull of others. Not all of the facts in the book are correct, but it has good pictures.

Re: Calling all SPORT fans
Was it the Rockford Files that had Jim Garners' dad driving one of them? Or, was it the Six Million Dollar Man? I remember somebody on one of those shows driving one.
What about the GMC Pace Trucks? Were they also Sport trucks?
