chopping my 1950 chevy

We started off deciding how much to chop the truck. We started at 2 1/2 and ended up going with 3 inches. First we had cut the top off it, I dont have any pictures. Then we had to cut 3 inches out of the post and the doors. Then we put the top of the cab back on and tack welded the post. We are still not done with the chop but I will keep you updated. The first pictures of before and after the chop

Then we had to cut down the top of the door 3 inches then tack weld the top of the door post to the bottom. Then had to make relief cut in the back by the window and the windshield post

Don't throw out the cut out sections from front and back of door . You will need one for the space on the top of the door. The space created when is was chopped.

He didn't stretch the top so he won't have to add a piece in the door tops. Lot more work to get every thing to fit though as I can attest to but the results look better in my eyes.

Looks great Mike, and it looks like you had it easier at 3 inches than I did at four. I had a hard time getting the back of the cab right but that was 30 years ago when my skills weren't all that great on body work.

Windshield glass is just flat glass that can be done at any full service auto glass shop. The local guys didn't have any trouble making mine when I chopped the truck. Door glass might be fun though. I'd suggest making working patterns out of `1/4 inch Masonite or similar material and getting that to fit perfectly in the channel before heading to the glass shop. You might think having tempered door glass made too as these things are prone to cracking glass with laminated windows.

I was thing of v butting the windshield and do away with the center strip

thats probably what im going to do is cut a pattern then take it to a glass shop. Good point
