How much would it cost to get a 69 gmc or even a 69 chevy grille re-chromed?

A lot.. they make chrome one's that you can buy, original 69's were aluminum I think though...

I know my current 69 GMC is not aluminum because it is rusting. Or maybe just that is the only piece that isn't aluminum. How much would it be versus a brand new grille?

69-72 Chevy Grills are aluminum. All 67-72 GMC grills are steel. You can purchace a 71-72 Chevy grill in chrome plated steel though. The are a bit tough to install, but look great once done. WES

Your right they do look great. Those are some great looking trucks there.

rechrome would probally b 3to4times what a new repop will cost you

repop GMC grill is upwards of 450-500 and doesn't come with the top bar or fender pieces. A rechrome would probably be approx the same amount and you would have a thicker OEM part. The repops look great but just like bumpers if you have an original without dents just rechome it. Thats my opinion anyway.

Before the repop parts became available, I had all the chrome pieces of the grill on my 70 GMC rechromed. Cost right around $1,000.00 . Since then, I can buy the new repops for about $750.00 . Hope this helps?

I have not been able to find anyone willing to rechrome my grill for less than $1500 around here.

I am not 100% happy with my repop and will eventually have my original rechromed.

you'll have to call a chrome shop to know, there prices differ considerably. You may not even have a shop anywhere close since the chemicals used are so nasty the EPA has closed most of the shops down. There's some venders that do it, I think one is called bumper boyz... they go to a lot of the main swap meets, but that name is only an example, I've heard quite a few unsatisfied customers on there work.
Aftermarket will certinaly be cheaper than a quality rechrome, but as noted, the stock pieces are probably better.

Before you spend the money, try getting some very fine grit steel wool with some windex and go over the rusted areas. You might be suprised. Trevor

First let me say this is NOT an advertisement , just sharing knowledge and resources! There is a rechrome company in Palmdale Cali. called Bumper Depot (Google it) last I knew Janet was the main rep very knowledgeable in the biz, I have seen the work and its very good albeit costly. I met her at the Goodguys show in Seattle. That being said shipping is a factor and like was mentioned the EPA has killed most of the chrome shops and a lot of other businesses (we wont go there) and as was also mentioned there is nothing that fits as good as OEM period! JMHO. One thing I have considered is the "near chrome" powder coating but a chromed part still would need to be stripped of the plating if there is any peeling or rust as it will show the broken edges and rust pits but it would be an option. I would think Txfirefighter might be someone to discuss this option or if you have a powder coating facility in your neck of woods. The GMC folks certainly have a challenge in this area as opposed to the chev folks and until someone can produce a quality fitting repop there aint many options

A few years ago I called a Houston firm and asked about chroming my GMC bumper. They said $150-$200 if the bumper didn't require straightening but they suggested buying a repro one.

I've heard from some that if you live close to the border you can get some really good prices on chroming and rechroming in Mexico. EPA can't control them.

Having chrome done or redone is one place where you really have to know and be able to trust the quality of the work that the shop turns out. You have to pay plenty for good work but you still can spend a lot on shoddy work that will have to be redone to be right.

Chrome may be like the roll and pleat upholstery jobs were 40 years ago where you make "the trip" south of the border to get your chrome done for a reasonable price and decent quality work. There is supposed to be a new shop starting up locally but I haven't been by there to check and see what they are doing or what they will do.
