2wd=2 piece drv shaft;4wd=1 piece?

Did v8 4x4's have the 2 piece drv shaft and 6 cyc have the 1? I see in the assembly manual KE109 and 209 = 2 piece and KA has a 1 piece.
Thanks

our 68 (LWB) I'm fairly certain came with a straight 6, but has a 2-piece DS.

Re: 2wd=2 piece drv shaft;4wd=1 piece?

My 69 SWB has a one piece driveshaft. It was originally a 6 cylinder turbo 350, is now a 350 crate motor (not any HP one though) with the turbo 350. Frame doesn't show any evidence of a carrier bearing having been there, so I'm surmising it had a one-piece driveshaft from the factory. Oh, its a 2wd also.

Re: 2wd=2 piece drv shaft;4wd=1 piece?

Maybe is as simple as LWB = 2 piece, SWB= 1 piece. Thanks for taking the time to respond. I hope to hear from a LWB 4x4 owner.

I "think" all 4x4 trucks had the one piece drive shaft. Long or short bed...

It just depends. My 70 SWB Chevy & 69 SWB Chevy, both with 6s was one piece shaft, while Krue's SWB 70 V8GMC had 2 a piece. I would Imagine all 4wds are one piece. I have yet to figure the difference on SWB 2wd why some are 1 piece and some are 2 piece.

Re: 2wd=2 piece drv shaft;4wd=1 piece?

My issue is mine has the 2 piece and need to verify if its correct, LWB 4x4 2 piece. The assembly manual does show a pic of a 2 piece for the KE model.
Thanks.

Re: 2wd=2 piece drv shaft;4wd=1 piece?

Thanks, This is getting more confusing. 70 LWB 4x4 has the 1 piece. There must be a reason that some trucks got the 2 piece.

There is also 2 different diameter shafts and 2 different styles of carrier bearings totaling four different possible carrier bearing set ups

Re: 2wd=2 piece drv shaft;4wd=1 piece?

could depend on tranny option as well since auto's are longer than manuals.

Re: 2wd=2 piece drv shaft;4wd=1 piece?

FWIW, my 1971 long wheel base chassis, originally a 3-speed manual on the tree, NP205, had a 1-piece rear drive shaft. I bought a th350/NP205 out of a 1972 blazer and used my truck's original drive shafts. One rear and one front.

I've never dealt with a T221 transfer case. All long wheel base 4x4 I've dealt with had NP205s and a one piece rear drive shaft.

Re: 2wd=2 piece drv shaft;4wd=1 piece?

Thanks guys, I am assuming the 2 piece is original on my 67. I am starting to think 1/2 tons = 2 piece, 3/4 = 1 piece.
My rear only has 2 leafs not 4/5 so I am thinking its a 1/2 LWB hence the 2 piece drv shaft.
Thanks for the replys.

Re: 2wd=2 piece drv shaft;4wd=1 piece?

I have never seen a 6 or 8 2wd that came with a factory one piece shaft. I have owned 8 of these trucks ( & burbs).....

Still looking for the 4wd that fits the needs.
