do 79 doors have carpet at the bottom?

im buying some replacements for my 76 and was curious if they are carpeted at the bottom in 79 or if they are steel? are the panels different? also how do i know if i have an early or late fleetside tailgate?

from 77 and up they had carpet maybe even 73-76

My 76 chev has no carpet. My boss's 76 gmc does.

77 up the carpet will touch the bottom of the door panel. 76 and back it would not. you'd have a strip of metal between the carpet and the door panel. it will go on the door though.

I suspect it was related to trim level, as well as model year.

Said differently, I know Silverado's would get carpet (not sure on the model year breakdown), but Scottsdale/Cheyenne/Custom Deluxe would not.

My 85 had the metal strip between the carpet and door panel

78 Chevyrado was not referring to the stainless band you have pictured. The 73-76 door panels are much shorter. If there is carpet at the bottom, they still have an exposed metal area between the carpet and door panel.

I know that 77 was a transition year. My early build K5 does not have carpet on the lower panel. Did late 77's (Cheyennes) in fact have it?

I don't think any Cheyenne's had the carpet panels. I believe it was part of the Silverado package.

The VERY ORIGINAL '78 I recently sold did NOT have carpet ...... it was a Deluxe model with rubber mat - that may be why.

yeah i dont want carpet on the door......its getting frusturating trying to find replacements though....might just have to repair the doors i have....some fool cut them all up putting in speakers though...and then he was all proud of that when he sold me the truck...

The carpeted lower door trim was part of the full trim interior on 77 and up Silverado only interiors . Cheyenne would not have had that . Silverado had the full length kick panels and the lower door panel carpet . Basically the only thing that wasnt covered in a Silverado was the lower part of the dash . Everything else is covered . I am sure there are 73-76 trucks and some of the 77 up trucks that arent Silverado trim that have the carpet but it has been added by someone . It didnt come factory in trucks until 77 Silverados .
