Rear window swap And front window seal
Okay already have a solid rear window i want to put in... And i have a used rear window seal... and have a few questions on that...
First off how do i get the window out... i was told its as simple as pushing it out... But i can tell you its not that simple from me siting out there trying looking dumb lol... Second should i get a new seal or will a old one work? I am going from sliding to solid.... Last question is on the front window... My drip rails have a leak and i am going to be re sealing them... but the water got in between the window and the seal and rotted some of it out.. So i am going to get a new seal what all will i need to do and how do i do a front window? I have never done it before and dont want to mess anything up. Thanks! |

Re: Rear window swap And front window seal
change them both they are cheap i would recommend the precision (i think this is the brand been awhile) gasket they are top of the line as for installation. I will also say this if you haven't installed the front glass on one of our trucks i would seek a professional cause they are one of the hardest to install

Re: Rear window swap And front window seal
I always do my own windshields. You have to lube the seal very thoroughly and work the lip over the pinch weld with a pointed tool. It's not for the faint of heart though because you will be doing some serious pushing and thumping of the glass with your hands.
I did one about a week ago and had my girlfriend help me. As I was in the cab working the seal into place she was outside applying pressure where I needed. Back windows are tempered glass and are very easy. For them I use the old weedeater string method. You can hardly break a back window. To remove them I lay in the cab and use my feet to push in the corner real hard and they will push out. Don't worry about it, they are very tough. I've hit a lot of them with a fire axe, trying to break them, but it bounces off a lot of times.

Ok, so installing the window is PITA, but what about fixing the rust/rot? I'm asking because this is on my short list too...though I'll be the dumbass sitting out there trying to put it IN by myself

Re: Rear window swap And front window seal
I'm a weld and grind kind of guy when it comes to fixing rust out. If I can't get a patch off of a parts truck I make one from scratch. I'm not familiar with any patch panels for windshield lip area.
